Interschool Sport

Exciting Term

It was an exciting term for Beaumaris Secondary College in sport, with the Year 7 cohort getting their first opportunity to represent the school in interschool sport. The participation rates in the School Sport Victoria Beachside Division Round Robin were once again outstanding, with the school fielding a total of 24 teams over the two carnival days for Year 7 and Year 8.

It was fantastic to see so many students out representing the school and having a great day playing sport.

A special congratulations to the following teams who won the Beachside Division title and will now be heading off to the Southern Metro Region(SMR) Finals later this year (SMR dates in brackets);

  • Year 7 Boys Baseball (Wednesday 1st May)
  • Year 7 Boys Volleyball (Wednesday 1st May)
  • Year 7 Boys Tennis (Friday 10th May)
  • Year 7 Girls Softball (Friday 10th May)
  • Year 8 Boys Tennis (Friday 17th May)
  • Year 7 Girls Cricket (Wednesday 23rd October)
  • Year 8 Boys Cricket (Thursday 24th October)

Thank you to all the staff and parent who helped out on the day and organising try-outs and team training leading into the event.

We would also like to thank Sandringham Baseball Club for providing extra softball and baseball equipment for our four Year 7 baseball and softball teams.

The Interschool sports for Term 2 are;

  • Girls AFL
  • Boys Netball
  • Golf
  • Girls Netball
  • Boys AFL
  • Badminton
  • Soccer
  • European Handball

Students should make sure that they check Compass and the notice boards on Beckett (Year 7) and Ricketts (Year 8) level to keep up to date on sign-ups and try-outs for Interschool sport.

Year 8 Boys Baseball

On Friday the 15th of March, the Beaumaris Secondary College Baseball team competed at the Interschool round-robin. Our competition was Glen Eira, Cheltenham and Elwood. Our first match was against Glen Eira. We played as a team and demonstrated excellent spirit. A highlight of this match was the fast and accurate pitching of Isaac Hatch and Ed Steere. Unfortunately we lost by a few runs. Our next game was against Cheltenham. We won convincingly thanks to some fast fielding plays from Jacob Biondo and some great hits from Kai Snell. Our last game was against Elwood. It was a very close match and in the end we were triumphant owing to Noah Ford and some of his great catches.

Boys Volleyball Teams

On the 19th of March, two Beaumaris Secondary College boys volleyball teams went to MSAC to compete with other schools in a round robin to try to get to the next round which is Regionals. Beaumaris did really well and the grand final had both BSC teams up against each other in the nail-biting grand finale, however only one team could win. Overall, both BSC teams did very well and hopefully we do well in Regionals. Also thank you to Miss O’Dea for taking us!  Charlie Reynolds

Southern Metro Region Swimming

Last week we had our Year 8 girls freestyle relay team and Lochie Grant participate in the Southern Metro Region swimming finals. The calibre of swimming from all the schools including Beaumaris was exceptionally high, and our results included a 5th place from the relay team and a second place in the 50m Butterfly by Lochie. Well done to the swim team!
