Principal's Report

“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.”

Anita Desai

The memories and stories forged through the shared experiences of school camp leads to a lifetime connection and belonging.  It is what motivates schools and teachers to provide these rich experiences for the next generation of students.

Our students headed off to camp this morning excited by the adventures the week would bring.  It looks as though the weather will improve over the course of the week which is great news for camp goers.

Parent, Student, Teacher Interviews - April 24th

We will be holding interviews on Wednesday April 24th from 12pm to 7pm. We recommend that parents book early to ensure they can meet with teachers.

Student Leadership Conference Overview

On Tuesday 26th March, a group of Year 8 students were lucky enough to attend the State Youth Leadership Conference. The day focused on Leadership, Teamwork, Communication and Entrepreneurship. There were guest speakers (including Neroli Meadows, Heather Yelland and Morgan Hipsworth) that came to share their knowledge and advice. We were taught how to make differences as leaders within our school, in the community, and how to positively impact the future. There were also team building activities, which gave us the opportunity to work with students from other schools. The conference was very beneficial and we are all keen to use our knowledge and new skills.  Overall the day was super fun and really enjoyable! Isabella Margheriti

Prospective Parent Evenings and School Tours

I held the first of 3 evenings for prospective families in the community.  I welcomed just under 100 people to the BW Resource Centre.  It was a positive start to the numerous secondary school presentations that many local families will be attending over the next few months.  We are also seeing increased numbers of families at our tours held each Tuesday during the school day.  Prospective families can feel the culture and see the learning that happens in our learning spaces with our wonderful teachers.  Our Open Night will be on May 9th and we hope that many students and parents volunteer to help on the night. More information to follow early next term.

School Council and Parents' Association

We had a our first official School Council meeting on Tuesday 12 March. We elected our 2019 office bearers:

President - Steve Pearce

Vice President - Carly Skinner

Treasurer - Shaun Mooney

I look forward to our working with School Council over the coming year.

Our Parents' Association had an inaugural meeting on Tuesday 18 March. These meetings are open to all parents.  The Office Bearers were elected at the inaugural meeting.

President - Shae Langford - Jones

Treasurer - Lisa Grant

Secretary - Liz Kelly

It is another wonderful opportunity for our parents to connect with each other and the school.

Beaumaris Then and Now Event

On Wednesday March 27th at the Beaumaris Library, student leaders and I attended a presentation by local historians.  It was a very informative evening as we learned about the intriguing and unexpected stories that make Beaumaris such a unique community.  We had pleasure of hearing from the following speakers:

  • Murray Orr, from Bayside Earth Sciences, shared the rich fossil history of our suburb
  • Graeme Disney, local historian and author, shared stories that many thought were lost
  • Jamie Peterson, from Beaumaris Modern, shared the rich history of architecture

Our leaders were again wonderful ambassadors and enjoyed hearing about our Beaumaris narrative.  This has been brought together by Liz Millman from Beaumaris in Wales.  We will be trying to build a connection with the secondary school there.  Also, we will hopefully be able to house the historical documents that have been brought together with this community initiative.

African Drumming Group Performance

Our African Drumming Ensemble performed for the Beaumaris North Disco on Friday March 22nd.  They were received warmly by the students who were able to join in with the rhythm and beats as maracas were passed around to add to the music.  Thank you to Ms AG and the wonderful performers for starting the performance year off with a strong melodic beat!
