Annual Golf Day 2019
Sacré Cœur Community
Annual Golf Day
The sun shone, the birds sang, some great shots were played (and some not so great), a tame fox may have even stolen a ball (or so one team claimed). Ninety three players enjoyed the eighth Annual Sacré Cœur Golf Day at glorious Commonwealth Golf Club on Monday April 29. This year there were fifteen men’s teams battling it out for the Men’s Trophy. Of the nine teams vying for the inaugural Women’s Trophy, three were Alumnae teams competing for the magnificent Alumnae Trophy which was presented by Kerry Bergin, Alumnae Association Co-President to the winning team :
Mary Ann Banting (Croagh 1977)
Jane Cuming (Banting 1974)
Mae-Louise McGuinness (Banting 1971)
Gen Rawling (Brew 1974)
Other Alumnae teams who were involved were:
Rosemary Kelly, Clare Wilson (Coburn), Anne Carne (Toohey) and Louise Date (Hannebery)
Felicity Carr, Chris Hayes (Rogers), Carmel Knowles (O’Rorke)
Those who felt they couldn’t (or shouldn’t) play joined us for the social “nineteenth hole” back in the beautiful club house where over drinks and abundant canapés lots of fabulous prizes were awarded amongst much friendly banter. It was wonderful to welcome Principal Mrs Anna Masters and some members of the leadership team to this part of the day. There was a great representation right across the Sacré Cœur community, junior and senior parents, past parents, alumnae, staff, sponsors, and friends. This really is a special day where, given the Ambrose Golf format, total beginners can play alongside accomplished players with everyone having plenty of fun. On one hole teams were able to buy a drive from the Australian longest drive champion, an offer too good for most to refuse. A short par 3 offered the chance to buy a shot from the club professional - this was also very well patronised given the number of bunkers protecting the hole! The day would not be possible without our very generous sponsors and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them.
