High Tea

Alumnae Association High Tea, AGM, 1949 and 1959 Reunion

On Sunday 19 May, the Alumnae Association Committee welcomed alumnae from many decades to the Chapel for the Annual Mass. We sang our favourite hymns including, Cœur de Jesu.  The choir sang beautifully around the piano and this year we were blessed to include a group from 2018, led by their Co-Captains Krystal Salloum and Ruby de Luca.

Following the Mass, the Alumnae Committee served a scrumptious High Tea in the Kirby Centre which many alumnae remembered as the Dining Room. Decadent cupcakes and homemade scones topped with jam and cream, filled the tiered cake stands and the school dinner plates overflowed with ribbon sandwiches and hot savoury delicacies – all washed down with cups of tea and coffee and glasses of champagne!

Co-President Marianne Cassin welcomed the 60 and 70 year reunions, many of whom had not been back to the school since 1949 and 1959.  Marianne expressed her delight in being able to welcome the increased number of alumnae representing every decade, particularly the large table of 2018 alumnae.  It was their first opportunity to return to Burke Road in civvies and drink champagne in the Kirby Centre and with their School Principal, Anna Masters in attendance!  Marianne spoke about how their lives will branch out into many different communities and take them down challenging and interesting paths but the Sacré Cœur Alumnae Association will always be there for them. “We are a kind and caring community and we are here for you all at any stage of your lives.”

Marianne conducted a very brief AGM which included the presentation of the Financial Report and the Janet Stuart Bursary Fund Report. Alumnae Association office bearers and general committee positions remain unchanged until the end of this two year term, May 2020.  She thanked Anna Masters for her strong support for the Alumnae Association and invited Anna to address everyone to let them know about the recent developments of what is happening at the school.

The official proceedings were concluded with a raffle drawn by Krystal Salloum, Ruby de Luca and Nora Toohey (1944).  Three lucky winners received some beautiful prizes whilst raising money for the Alumnae Association.

The photos speak for themselves – Alumnae sharing memories of their school days together and catching up on each other’s lives in the warm and comforting environment of Sacré Cœur.
