Reunions

1969, 1989 and 1999

Class of 1969

The 50 year reunion of the class of 1969 was held on 13 April 2019 at Kooyong Tennis Club.  Invitations were sent to 38, including some who left school before Year 12.  A total of 16 attended.

It was a very casual and fun afternoon, filled with shared stories and memories of school days, and everyone individually had the opportunity to speak of their lives since leaving school.  There was lots of laughter and a feeling of belonging.

Those who are no longer with us were remembered.  Also, those unable to attend who sent current photos and brief life stories were remembered.

A wonderful afternoon of fun and laughter and everyone stayed well past lunchtime.

Melinda Adams, Alumnae Coordinator did a wonderful job of supplying contact information, a CD of the school song and photo books.  All most appreciated by all.

Consensus was that the next reunion should be in 5 years.  Hopefully, the numbers of attendees will be greater.

Class of 1989

The Class of 89 reunion took place on 23 March 2019 with around 35 girls attending. What a delightful surprise to be greeted at the school by none other than Mrs Kennedy, ticking off names and taking photos as we all arrived. The Parlour was full of laughter as we caught up on news since the last reunion, or for some, since leaving school. The slideshow was a hilarious trip down memory lane – thanks to everyone who contributed images! We also heard messages from friends and teachers unable to attend, including some who are living overseas, and remembered with love Sam Bourke and Catherine McEncroe, who left us too soon.

The school tour brought back many memories – so much has changed, yet much remains the same – the brown stairs are still there, albeit covered in carpet. We were surprised to see the Year Nine “takeover” of the top floor – back in the day this was the domain of Years 11 and 12 and no one else dared climb the stairs. The celebration then moved on to Malvern Hotel, with a few girls kicking on until late.

Thanks to Melinda Adams for her outstanding efforts in organising reunion and also to Lizzie Joyce and Nicola Duggan from the Alumnae Association for being fabulous and attentive hosts in the Parlour.

The class of 89 has a Facebook messenger group with almost forty members, which helps us stay in touch between reunions. Anyone from the class of 89 is welcome to join – please contact Melinda Adams at the school to be put in touch with the group.  Marcia Endacott

Class of 1999

Saturday 11 May marked the 20 year school reunion for the class of 1999, held in the

Sacré Cœur  Parlour and then followed by dinner and drinks at Tom Pockett wine bar on Burke Road. Some guests anxiously arrived wondering if we would remember faces and names.

What would we talk about? What has changed at the school?

As soon as we were greeted with some friendly embraces, all of the nerves were put to ease. Our high school years were such a significant part of the development of our personalities, forming our career paths and our journey through life. Now 20 years down the track and double our age, it was so great to hear about all of the stories of travel, relationships, careers, interests, families and children, property purchases and long lasting friendships that have been maintained by the Sacré Cœur alumnae. For those that couldn’t be with us, you were remembered as we walked the hallways, up the brown stairs, past our lockers and homerooms, and into all of the different spaces that became our home away from home for 6 plus years.

Thank you to Melinda and the staff for organising the event, allowing us to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and a trip down memory lane. We all had a great time, lots of laughs, reconnecting with our classmates, looking at photos of our teenage years, and touring the school. Here’s to health, happiness and friendships for the the next 20 years.
