Years 7 - 9 Update
December 2020
The time has come to farewell our Year 8 students as they prepare to take the exciting ‘leap’ into their senior school years at Goldsworthy Campus.
Many of these students began their Northern Bay journey as Preps back in 2012, with several joining us along the way from other schools.
The page header picture shows a few of the students from their prep year and a smaller picture of their Year 8 recent headshots. The 'cuties' have become young adolescents.
Here are a few more 'Prepshots'! Play Guess Who?
It is a special time as we reminisce about experiences shared, changes, growth and all the learning that has taken place. It is also a time of moving forward, new beginnings, the unknown, new friendships and hopes for the future.
The students made some videos of their memories and also wrote about their best memories.
Please enjoy a section of their work.
Year 8s begin a new chapter of their education at Goldsworthy taking part in the ‘Step Up’ orientation program. They will also finalise their course selection for Year 9. In week 11, they will return to their junior campuses where they will formally celebrate the completion of Year 8 in a ceremony that will be held on-site but shared via Webex with families.
Here are some moments of their last few days and an attachment with their sentiments written down.
We take this opportunity to wish all our Year 8s the very best for the future and dedicate this section of our newsletter to them.
All Year 8 students return to their junior campus on Monday 14 December and last day of formal instruction is Thursday 17 December.

As Mr Diamond shared on his page, he College is introducing our new Student 1:1 Device Program in 2021. This means that all Year 3 to Year 10 students will be receiving a new Lenovo 300e Chromebook 2nd Gen, which will be collected with the Student Book Pack on Friday 22 January. Excitedly, these $400 devices, which also come with a carry bag, will be at no cost to families.
Information on safe use and student expectations will be shared at Book Collection Day and at the beginning of the 2021 school year.

In week 9 Year 9 students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of different actions that enabled them to finish the 2020 year on a positive note. In what has been a very challenging year, the students demonstrated many great skills and attributes when involved in the week long program.
The ‘finishing strong’ week enabled students to select activities including Mini Golf, Beach Volleyball, Tree Adventuring, Trampolining, Mountain Biking, Photography and Body Boarding. Students also participated in a Career’s Day which enabled them to gain a snap shot on a specific career pathway. Pathway programs included options such as Automotive, Building, Animal Studies and Robotics just to name a few.
Students also worked with Brett Squires to create a Hands On art work to reflect the ‘Hands of the Covid year’. Thanks to all the students who participated in the finishing strong program in alignment with the NBC core values. A great way to finish off the Year 9 experience.
