WHERE CHILDREN LOVE TO BE

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2021

I couldn’t be prouder of how our students have adapted to and positively embraced the start of the school year. Even though we experienced a set back to our learning earlier in the term (the snap lock down), it’s all about how we respond and how we keep moving forward. We learn so much about ourselves when setbacks arise. Something that helps me move forward is;

‘Treating every experience as a learning opportunity.’

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS - TERM 1

We have started the term of with cooperative games with no equipment. This is to get students thinking about how games work, collaborating and problem solving with one another when they are playing in the yard. All students from prep to year 6 have been using rock, paper, scissors to solve disputes and talking about how being honest and playing fairly allows for greater enjoyment for all participants when playing games.

Skill Focus:

Preps Fundamental Movement skills of: running, dodging, ball bounce, catching and throwing

1/2 Fundamental Movement skills of: running, dodging, ball bounce, catching, overarm throwing and kicking

3/6: Cooperative games, modified cricket, tee ball/softball and soccer.

The 5/6 student will have the opportunity to participate in the Southport District Soccer Gala Day on Friday the 28th March. More details for the Gala Day will be available closer to the date.

Due to the sporting schools funding that we were successful in getting for Term 1, we are lucky enough to have a Melbourne Victory Football Club coach run a 3 week soccer program with the 1/2 and multi-age classes, starting next week. The coach will be assisting the PE program and running the classes during your child’s PE lesson. This will not impact on your child’s classroom learning time or require any extra costs.

Active Club:

Student attendance at ‘Active Club’ has been growing every week. This is a student voice lead active club, we organise and facilitate the activities that the students either want to practise or play just for fun. Over the past few weeks we have had students wanting to practise their skipping and learn the Double Dutch technique. Others were keen to use the cricket equipment to hit wickets. There was so much joy in their squeals when they were able to knock down stacked cones or hit the stumps. Cosmic Yoga was also popular for some.

Active Clubs run every Tuesday for Prep and Yr1/2 and on Fridays for multi age at lunchtime in the gym.
