A note from Mr Jackson

Welcome

The last few days have seen our halls filled with footsteps and playgrounds with laughter. The nerves of our initial few days are fading and being replaced with growing friendships. After a disrupted 2020, we have been thrilled to have students back onsite. A special thanks to the many who have worked over the last few weeks to ensure such a smooth transition this year.

During the initial two Curriculum days, staff explored the impact of trauma on child development and learning. Staff developed deeper understandings of trauma and how to ensure learning is shaped for all. A workshop exploring indigenous history and cultural understanding, proved a powerful and timely reminder of Australian history. These new understandings will continue to enrich learning throughout the year.

Start of the Year Consent Notices

The start of the year requires schools to have a number of consents signed for our everyday experiences. In an effort to streamline this process, you will be sent home a number of notes on Monday. These notes are all important and require you to return them to school. They include consents related to local excursions, technology (agreements and Seesaw) and publishing of student work. We hope that having these notes together will facilitate their signature and return to the school. Please feel free to speak with the classroom teacher if you have any questions related to these forms.

Parent Teacher Interviews

At the beginning of the school year we offer the opportunity for parents to meet with teachers to share information about students. The date for these meetings will be Monday, 15 February for all classes except for Prep Y who will hold their interviews on Tuesday, 16 February

A letter with details and booking information will be sent home shortly. If you have more than one child at the school we encourage you to consider booking sooner to ensure your children can be scheduled at appropriate times.  Bookings open tomorrow, Friday 5 February at 6.00pm.

Chief Health Officer’ Message

Please take time to review the Chief Health Officer’s message to schools and their communities. During this time of dramatic change, it is always important for us to make decisions based upon expert knowledge. The message reminds us …

Schools and parents continue to have an important role to promote and ensure testing when a child or staff member has any symptoms, no matter how mild, and then stay home. Getting tested and staying home until results are known, remains critical to limiting community transmission.

COVID Safe Behaviours

Please ensure that all onsite are abiding to our COVID Safe guidelines published on Compass. Restrictions have been recently changed and so health and safety restrictions remain in place. These include:

  • Adults must wear a mask while inside
  • Parents are asked not to enter buildings unless necessary
  • Any student, staff person or parent who is unwell should stay at home
  • Any visitor onsite must sign in at the front office. Parents are asked to limit their time onsite before and after school
  • Regular hand sanitising continues to be encouraged throughout the school

Lawn Mowers Keep Our School Looking Good

A special thanks to our small group of volunteers who have kept our lawns looking neat and tidy. Their often unseen presence in our community is deeply valued. We are always looking for volunteers to help share the load. If you can offer an afternoon or evening once a term or more than please give Mark Etheridge a call on 0435 083 239.

CSEF Applications – Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.

If you have a valid means-tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible. There is also a special consideration category for asylum seeker and refugee families.

Payment amounts this year are $125 for eligible primary school students and $225 for eligible secondary school students [remove primary/secondary as necessary]. Payments are made direct to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

If you applied for CSEF through our school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year, unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

If you would like to apply for the first time, please contact the school office on 9457 2592 and speak with Kim to ensure you for an application form.

You can also download the form, and find out more about the program and eligibility, on the Department of Education and Training’s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund web page.

Check with the school office if you are unsure, and please return completed forms to the school office as soon as possible.
