Performing Arts at RPPS!
Well, well, well! Some big changes are happening at Roxy this year! First of all, we had to say congratulations and farewell (for now) to Signora Merino, as she will be taking 2021 off to welcome a new family member into the world! We wish her all the best. And so to keep her office and classroom nice and warm, I (better known as Ms Paloma) will be taking over as a specialist teacher and converting the Italian room into a Performing Arts room!
For those of you who may not know, Performing Arts incorporates Dance, Drama and Music. It encourages students to be creative, express themselves, learn resilience, develop confidence and try new things. Over the course of my teaching career, I have only ever been a classroom teacher. But before I was a teacher, I studied drama, singing and musical theatre! I am so excited share my knowledge and expertise with the students at Roxy and to help them develop
their confidence. Who knows, they might even discover some
talents that didn't even know they had!
This week I have had the pleasure of getting to know the students with some games (fruit salad, charades, the crazy handshake game). With the grade 1's and 2's, we learned the Performing Arts class rules and talked about how we can be kind and encouraging to our peers. Grades 3 to 6 helped to develop a Performing Arts contract. We talked about what the RPPS values look like, sound like and feel like in a Performing Arts classroom. They came up with some great ideas!
Over Term 1, the students will explore the use of their bodies, voices, movement, and even musical instruments to express themselves and communicate stories and ideas. And that's just what's in store during class times! Stay tuned for more information on some excellent lunchtime clubs that will be running over the year! Next week, students will be voting on their preferred club Performing Arts club for Term 1. They have a choice between Roxy Lunchtime Disco, Roxy Choir and Roxy Drama club. Check the bulletin board in the Performing Arts alcove (pictured above) for sign-up sheets and other lunchtime clubs!
I'm looking forward to a wonderful year with all the students and hope that they are excited too!!!
Dance, Sing and Act like NO ONE is watching!
