Student Wellbeing for Engaging Literate Learners

GGSS kids are kind.

Positive Behaviour for Learning Lessons

Each week we focus on a lesson from our Behaviour Matrix.

Week 2 - Bee Safe - All Areas - Walk in & around buildings

Week 3 - Bee Respectful - All Areas - Wear full uniform.  Act in a friendly & compassionate manner. Listen Actively

Week 4 - Bee Responsible - All Areas - Follow directions.  Right place, right time.  Use the High 5 & be water wise.

Students are explicitly taught these expectations on Assemblies and in classrooms during the week.  Videos are shared on our YouTube channel for families to support appropriate behaviour at school.

We use Bee Tokens as our "Free & Frequent" currency to recognise students in meeting and learning  behaviour expectations at school.  Students collect their tokens in a beehive and these can then be used to exchange for established class rewards.  Students are also recognised on assemblies with ribbons & badges for the bee tokens they have earned.

Further details are available on student recognition on our Student Code of Conduct document.

SEL - Social Emotional Learning

An important part of our SWELL framework is SEL - Social & Emotional learning is about learning how to manage feelings, friendships & solve problems.  These are essential life skills that support wellbeing and positive mental health.  Social and emotional skills promote children's ability to cope with difficulties and help to prevent mental health problems.  Add GGSS we use PATHS & Second Steps programs to teach these skills to our students.  Lessons occur weekly.

This term students are learning about establishing a positive classroom climate.  Classroom teachers will share with you lessons & information covered in this unit.

Brain Boost

Brain Boost is a part of GGSS SWELL Framework that promotes well being of our students. It is a curriculum that looks at Brain Health, how the brain works, executive functioning, growth mindset, self -regulation and mindfulness. Each week classes work on a specific area of this to help give brains a boost to be effective learners. GGSS has written a specific overview to cover all these areas. Lessons are taught weekly.

Each week classes dedicate an hour of learning about their brains.  Over the coming weeks students with learning about self- regulation, through the Zones of Regulation & the executive functioning skills of Planning & Organisation.
