Student achievements

Congratulations to the following students:

Nina Canning (Year 2), who was awarded first place in the Prep-Year 2 section of the Catholic Education Tasmania Storytelling Showcase for 2020. 

 

Nina wrote a story about a tornado that drops the characters on a strange but beautiful island, with interesting and descriptive vocabulary. Well done, Nina on your fantastic writing!

Kasota Clayton (Year 9),who was awarded the prestigious ICAS medal for her outstanding achievement in English. Run by the University of New South Wales, ICAS provides students the opportunity to participate in an internationally recognised English exam. Students are assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills. 

 

Kasota received a high distinction in the competition, which placed her in the top one per cent of all results. Congratulations on this amazing result, Kasota - you should be very proud!

Holly Teale (Year 8), who has been selected to represent Tasmania at the U15 Girls National Championships, due to be held in Bathurst, NSW from 9-15 April 2021, and Emma Fenner, Ansa Le Grange and Ellie McDonald (Year 10), who have been selected to represent Tasmania at U18 Womens National Championships to be held in Launceston from 8-16 April 2021.

ABC Heywire Storytelling Award 

St Mary's College has been announced as the ABC Heywire Tasmania State Winner for Excellence in Storytelling! The award is a culmination of the effort and quality of stories that our students have submitted to Heywire this year. 

 

Congratulations to all students who participated in this competition, including the Year 10 Creative Writing class and EAL/D student, Maryam Desooza (Year 11). A big thank you also to Lorise Clark, English and Languages Learning Area Coordinator, for supporting and nurturing the talents of all students and their capacity for creativity and excellence.
