Welcome to 2021!
We hope you all have had a safe and happy holidays!
This is the first newsletter for the year.
Keep reading for an overview of the tasks in Weeks 1 and 2.
Coming up in P.E:
Prep: Students have familiarised themselves with the gym as a learning space. Students played a variety of tagging games to reinforce rules for safe usage of space.
Grade 1: Students have familiarised themselves with the PE essential agreement and participated in a variety of getting to know me games.
Grade 2: Students have familiarised themselves with the PE essential agreement and participated in a variety of getting to know me games.
Grade 3: Students have familiarised themselves with the essential agreement and participated in collaborative team building activities.
Grade 4: Students have familiarised themselves with the essential agreement and participated in collaborative team building activities.
Grade 5: Students have been introduced to the physical components of fitness and developed their knowledge and understanding of each area. Students over the next few weeks will participate in a number of fitness tests.
Grade 6: Students have been introduced to the physical components of fitness and developed their knowledge and understanding of each area. Students will apply this knowledge when participating in a number of fitness tests.
Coming up in French
Preps: Introduction to the sounds of the French language through songs.
Grades 1&2: Introduction of French vocabulary relating to self-introductions through role-plays.
Grades 3&4: Introduction of French vocabulary relating to personal information through quizzes.
Grades 5&6: Introduction of French language and culture through interactive programs.
Coming up in Visual Arts:
Prep – Setting expectations and starting unit of work looking at relationships.
Grade 1– Setting up agreement for art room and starting a new unit with a still life drawing.
Grade 2– Setting expectations for the art room and starting a self-portrait.
Grade 3– Setting up agreement for art room and looking at two elements of art, line and shape.
Grade 4– Setting up agreement for the art room and starting a unit on designing a healthy lifestyle mascot.
Grade 5– Setting expectations and starting unit on one point perspective.
Grade 6– Setting expectations and starting a unit focusing on light and shade.
Coming up in Music
Preps: Students are warming up their singing voices with the Welcome to Music song. They are exploring rhythm and beat using movement and a variety of different instruments.
Grade 1: Students are using their names to create rhythms and are creating different beats using percussion in the Music Room.
Grade 2: Students are warming up their voices, using Solfa notes (ie Do Re Mi). They are exploring rhythm and beat using African drums.
Grade 3: Students are warming up their voices, using Solfa notes (ie Do Re Mi). They are exploring rhythm and beat and will be composing music with sounds found in the classroom.
Coming up in Drama:
Grade 3 & 4: Students have been involved in discussions around what drama skills and activities they would like to focus on in 2021. Students will be exploring character development through the use of props and costume.
Grade 5 & 6: Students have discussed what they enjoy doing in their drama sessions, and were invited to offer suggestions about skills and activities they wanted to explore further in 2021. Students will explore the concepts of responsibility and perspective through a series of improvisation activities that will rely on collaborative group work.
