RELAY FOR LIFE - CANCER COUNCIL FUNDRAISER
SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM - ECOLOGICAL JUSTICE HUB
I’m reaching out from the Ecological Justice Hub in Brunswick. The Ecological Justice Hub is a permaculture garden and community centre (located behind the Brunswick Library), dedicated to building ecological awareness, restoring our regenerative relationship with nature, and working collaboratively with others towards a sustainable society that includes both social and environmental justice.
I thought some of your students might be interested in an upcoming school holiday program we are hosting for students aged 13 and over. It’ll be three activity-packed days, learning about sustainability, ecosystems and getting hands-on experience in the woodworking studio. Students will build and design their own garden box, learn skills to grow fresh veggies at home, and join in a healthy lunch cooked with produce from the garden.
The course runs over three days, Mon 30th Sept , Wed 2nd October, and Fri 4th October, from 9:00am – 3:00pm.

PARTY ANIMALS AT COLLINGWOOD CHILDREN'S FARM - 3 NOVEMBER
The Collingwood Children’s Farm is turning 40 years old and they’re throwing a beast of a party to celebrate! On Sunday 3 November, the farm’s seven acres of paddocks, gardens, orchards and rustic buildings will play home to ‘Party Animals’, a full day celebration featuring some of Melbourne’s best bands and activities for all ages including storytelling, workshops and producers’ table talks, market stalls from Melbourne Farmers Markets, and an epic BBQ by specialty butchers, Meatsmith!
The musical line-up for the day features Cosmic Psychos, Emma Donovan & the Putbacks, Jess Ribeiro, Saint Jude, The Burnt Sausages, The Orbweavers, The Ookerpookers (featuring Liam Gerner), Cold Gold, Amadou Jaly Suso and the Farm Hand Bush Band, with more to be announced. MC for the day is the beard to be revered, Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia.
“For 40 years the Collingwood Children’s Farm has been inner-city Melbourne’s beating heart of urban agriculture. In this time, the farm has brought generations of city folk closer to land, animals, farm life and community, and supported countless Victorians experiencing hardship. The farm wants to say thank you to the thousands of volunteers, community groups, schools and families that make this place so special. Whether you've visited before or this is your first time, we can’t wait to throw open our doors for party animals of all ages to enjoy an exciting day of music, food and farm fun! Come and help us celebrate and support us to keep this amazing place as special for the next 40!” Conor Hickey, General Manager, Collingwood Children’s Farm.
Families can participate in storytelling, table talks with producers, workshops on fermentation, bee keeping, food and sustainability, and of course there’ll be animal pats all day long.
Meatsmith’s Andrew McConnell (Cutler & Co. Cumulus Inc. Supernormal, Marion) and seasoned butcher Troy Wheeler will take the reins of the BBQ for the day with a menu that takes the Sunday sizzle to a whole new level. Bring your picnic basket and fill it with fresh Victorian produce direct from its growers and makers at the market stalls thanks to Melbourne Farmers Markets. Near the Main Stage you’ll also find your favourite festival foods with giant paella, chilli mussels, pizza, gozleme, burgers and more. Beers will be supplied by a local brewery and wine from boutique local wineries.
Collingwood Children’s Farm exists to support people in the Victorian community who are experiencing disadvantage, supporting social inclusion by delivering a range of programs from a rustic community working Farm. As a non-profit organisation, ticket purchases will go directly to supporting the farm’s activities
Limited parking is available at the Abbotsford Convent. Attendees are encouraged to go green and leave the car at home. The Collingwood Children’s Farm is a ten-minute walk from public transport at Victoria Park Station, and accessible by bike via the Capital City cycling and walking path.
Get the gang together, pack your own coffee cups, picnic gear, and come down to help us celebrate!
