INTERNATIONAL STUDENT NEWS

Immigration Museum Visit

Last week students and teachers from the English Language Centre enjoyed a visit to the Immigration Museum as part of our humanities study about the history of migration in Victoria. We visited the site of the arrival of the first European ships in Victoria at Enterprise Park and beheld the replica scar trees which bring to life some of the cultural practices of our nation’s first people. We learnt about the many different reasons people come to live in Australia, listened to various experiences of arrival in Australia, admired the many artefacts and items that were once exotic and unusual pieces in our country and read about the changing policies and waves of migration over time. Students were intrigued by the varied stories of leaving and arrival and the diverse nature of our state’s community and heritage.

Entering Mainstream Classes

The Language Centre staff  would like to wish the following students all the best with transitioning to mainstream classes next term.  We are very proud of the progress you have made with your English language learning over the past two terms. Photos from the end of term ceremony will appear in our next newsletter.

Year 7: Ethan Yiming, Mia Jiao and Mark Chen

Year 9: Nhi Pham and Uliana Le

Year 10: Long Nguyen

Spring Fair

In addition to running the Dumpling stall, international students managed a Homestay Families information desk this year for interested people wishing to host an international student.  Well done to all students involved  - it was terrific to see our international students engaging with community members...whilst practicing their English!

ARC

Special mention to Year 9 girls (Nhi, Uliana, Truc and Christine) on an excellent dance performance at the recent ARC celebration evening.  Their enthusiastic participation and commitment to learning the various dance routines clearly highlighted their personal connection to the program, relationships formed with the amazing instructors and integration into our wider community.  It was a delight to see!
