Cambodia Mission Trip Team 2018

NAPLAN RESULTS

The 2018 NAPLAN results have been released to the College and reports have been sent home to each student who sat the tests. As a general overview, when we consider each of the areas tested at every year level, we have continued to perform at a high level compared to the State average. Students who have continued at St Andrews have achieved growth, confirming that the longer a student journeys through our College, the higher their growth. This is a testament to the quality of our teaching staff and the programs that form a part of our curriculum. From deeper analysis of our current results, we have identified writing as an area that we will continue to strengthen.

We continue to consider it a privilege to be responsible for sharing the learning journey of your children. We do recognise that academics is only one area that forms that make up of the whole child. These assessments do not account for the spiritual development of each of our students. At St Andrews, we recognise that each student is uniquely made in God’s image and we are committed to helping each child uncover their purpose in Christ.

A more detailed report will be released once a full analysis has been completed.

On Monday 3rd September students from Years 7 to 11 participated in the CSEN interschool debating championship at Maranatha Christian School. Our students performed exceptionally well and both our junior and senior team have qualified for the finals, which we will be hosting in Term 4. Congratulations to all those who participated.

2018 CAMBODIA MISSION TRIP TEAM UPDATE

The Cambodia Mission Discovery Trip leaves in December as soon as school is over and the excitement is building. We have booked our tickets, heard about the vaccinations we need, visa applications are in and will soon have an itinerary for the trip. The shoeboxes that classes have been filling look great and we are eager to be able to share them with the children in Cambodia. Here are some comments from team members:

What are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to giving out the Christmas boxes to the kids, and see the kids reactions.

I'm looking forward to being able hand out the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. It's just such a big thing to bring joy to those with so little.

I am looking forward to meeting all the children and helping them as well as handing out the Christmas boxes.

I am most looking forward to experiencing the culture and lifestyle of another country and seeing the differences between the developed country that we live in compared with that of a developing country.

Meeting all of the kids!! And seeing their lifestyle and being able to make relationships with them. Also being able to help and make a difference.

What are you wanting to learn on the trip?

One question I would like answered throughout this trip is why all the children I see on adverts in the papers and on TV look so happy, since they have so little compared to us.

I'd like to find out more about peoples' everyday lives in Cambodia and the challenges they face and how we could possibly help out.

I would like to know what life is like in Cambodia.

I would like to find out the differences in lifestyle and culture that we have in Australia compared with that of Cambodia. I’d like to see what sort of traditions they have and how their day to day lives compare with ours.

I would like to find out about the Christian community in Cambodia, and how they get by.

What are you anxious about?

I think I am most anxious about being so emotional on the trip to seeing all the poverty.

I'm probably most anxious about the possibility of eating spiders... It's something I want to do but also something that absolutely terrifies me.

Who knows, maybe it will help out with my fear of spiders!

I am most anxious about the new culture and the language barrier.

ENROLMENT UPDATE

We have commenced our planning for 2019 and confirming places for new students to start in Term 1, 2019. Unless we have been advised, we are assuming that all current students will be returning to the College in 2019.

If a student is not returning to the College, in line with the enrolment policy, one term’s notice in writing is required. If the notice is not received on time, one term’s tuition fees in lieu of notice will be charged. This requirement is clearly noted in the enrolment Agreement and Declaration which all parents/guardians signed when their child(ren) was enrolled.

To assist with our planning we ask you to advise the College by Monday 8th October 2018 if a student is not returning to the College in 2019. The notice should be addressed to the College Registrar and can be sent via email to registrar@standrews.vic.edu.au  It will be helpful to receive this notice as soon as possible as it will allow us to offer any vacant places to students on our waiting lists.

If there are siblings of current students wanting to enrol at the College, it is important that parents submit an enrolment application at the commencement of the year prior to their planned entry. This allows the College to provide a priority place for siblings of current students.

Please do not hesitate to speak with the Registrar, Mrs Suzy Song (8847 8309) if you have any concerns regarding this information or if you need clarification in any way.
