Assistant Principals' Report

School Buses

As well as the great start Concord School students have made this year we have some more good news. We have been working with Dysons and the Department of Education & Training to secure 2 brand new buses. These buses will replace the Reservoir and Lower Plenty vehicles. They are coaches with air-conditioning, seatbelt and cameras both inside the bus and externally. They will make for a much safer and more comfortable journey for students. It is hoped they will be introduced during this term.

As I am sure you are aware the population in the northern suburbs continues to grow. Last year we extended the route of one of our school buses into Doreen to better serve those students. This has been very successful. It is now clear that there are many students in the Mernda area who have to travel out onto Plenty Road in order to catch the Whittlesea bus. We feel we can better meet their needs by diverting part of the Whittlesea bus route into the Mernda township.

The proposed new route is included in this newsletter. The actual stops have yet to be determined however there will be sufficient to meet the needs as best as possible.

It is proposed to start the new route at the beginning of term 2.

Meet the Staff

In this edition of 'Meet the Staff' we speak with: Marcella Boca

What is your role at the Concord School?

I am the classroom teacher of year 9/10 (SMB)

Provide us with a ‘snapshot’ into your daily routine at Concord School:

I arrive at work nice early and put on classical music. Tchaikovsky is my favourite.

Students in SMB arrive, I greet them individually and ask how they are.

We make it through the day. We may do some challenging or not so challenging work.

I check in with my grade to see how they’re feeling after lunch and before anyone knows it, it’s 3pm and is the end of the day!

What do you love most about working at Concord School?

All the smiling faces. I have never been to such a friendly school. It’s really lovely to see!

Fast Six:

Favourite Food: Japanese – a good bento box usually does the trick.

Favourite Movie/TV Show: Beauty and the Beast. I love Disney!

Favourite music:Too hard to pick just one; bit of Classical, some Jazz, Disney, indie.  JUST NOT ANTYHING WITH BAGPIPES!

Hidden Talent or Something We May Not Know About You:

I did Ballet/Broadway Jazz and Tap for 18 years and played the violin for 7 years during high school.

Favourite Sporting Team/Athlete:

Is shopping a sport? If I had to pick, it’d be Carlton FC.

If You Could Pick Any 3 People as Dinner Guests, Who Would They Be and Why?

Frank Sinatra – He would provide the music and share the gossip of what life was like for him and the Ratpack.

Nigella Lawson – Her food! I am terrible in the kitchen and could really do with some pointers.

Walt Disney - The man had some imagination. Would be amazing to simply shake his hand and just say thank you.
