Principal's Report

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all members of the school community as we commence another school year. The past week has seen our students regrouping with old friends, forming new relationships and displaying excellent learning behaviours. All students have been adhering to the school motto and striving ‘to be the best that they can be’.

2017 starts with a record school enrolement of well in excess of 400 students. I can assure parents/carers that the Concord School staff will continue to do everything possible to ensure your child is working in a safe and supportive environment that values and celebrates student learning. I look forward to a very rewarding and successful year for our parents, staff and most importantly our students.

At Concord School we truly value the partnership that parents have with the school. We consider your input to be a valuable tool that assists us to support your child with their educational and social experiences. Please be sure to communicate with your child’s classroom teacher any suggestions, supports or concerns, as together we can ensure that your child has a happy and productive school experience. Do remember that the Team Leader of your child’s Learning Area is also a great point of call to assist you.

Parent Volunteer Information

In 2016 we hosted some parent forum evenings to ensure that we are able to meet safety standards for our volunteers. These will be accessible once again in 2017. There are some DET requirements around volunteer support that we must adhere to. All volunteers must have a current working with children check (WWC) and all volunteers must be inducted annually. We will be hosting parent helper forums once again at the start of term 2.

On Wednesday evening we had a very successful meet the teacher night at Concord. At the Bundoora Campus, hundreds of parents and students braved the heat to attend our annual barbeque. Our wonderful staff sweltered over the barbeques to ensure everyone was well fed and we truly appreciate this effort. It was lovely to meet some of the families of students during the evening and I look forward to getting to know you all better throughout the year. I must also thank all of our wonderful teachers for attending the evening and ensuring that they make every effort to get to know your child in order to provide the best education that we can.

School Council Elections

An election is to be conducted for members of the School Council of Concord School.

Nomination forms may be collected from Debbie at the Bundoora Campus or from Kruni at the Watsonia Campus and must be lodged by 4pm on Monday, 20th February, 2017.

The ballot (if required) will close at 4pm on Monday, 6th March, 2017.

Following the closing of nominations a list of the nominations received will be posted at the school. The terms of office, membership categories and number of positions in each membership category open for election are as follows –

If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect and calling for further nominations will be posted in a prominent position at the school.

Information for Term 1

I advise that for term one I will be working in the Department of Education in the acting role of Senior Education Improvement Leader for the Moreland Network of schools. Kirrily Lamers will be the Acting Principal in my absence. I know that Kirrily will welcome any questions or comments regarding the education of your child in 2017. I look forward to seeing you again after Easter in term two.
