SOAR ADVENTURES BALLINA CAMP

Last month 16 of our SOAR Adventures students, and support team including a current and former student in leadership roles, attended a camp in Ballina, Byron Bay and Sydney.

Coincidentally on their first day of travel, they arrived at Parks to experience the 50th Anniversary of the Moon landing. The celebrations included space educational information, science and technological resources from NASA and CSIRO.

The displays included the original panels and equipment used at Parks from the key global televised role it had in the 1969 moon landing.

When students arrived in Ballina and Byron Bay, they were treated to pods of whales and dolphins which was a daily occurrence.

Ballina involved community work experience which included working in op shops, an Equestrian Centre that specialises in therapy for individuals experiencing a range of health, varying life challenges or for the pure enjoyment of being in the company and caring for horses.

Activities included building and constructing an out door display and garden setting at the local Salvation Army. These leadership and personal development experiences included mentoring and life skills support from the Managers of each of the organisations.

Some students experienced public speaking, cooking and all enjoyed key sites including rain forests and waterfalls in the Ballina region, Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Manly including the day and night ferries. This camp was a one in a million experience thoroughly enjoyed by all who are grateful to our school and SOAR adventures team, for such an outstanding opportunity.
