Whittlesea Bus

Parents and staff of students on the Whittlesea bus have for sometime been concerned about this particular older bus which although legal, does not have seat belts and last winter did not have an effective heater. Late last year one parent (mother of Alexander pictured) expressed her concerns directly in a letter to Premier Daniel Andrews. Soon after a coach with belts, excellent air-con and heating and with all forward facing seats was put on to the Whittlesea run for the remainder of 2017. It has now been confirmed by the Department of Education, Student Transport Unit that this new bus is the permanent vehicle on this run. Thank you Mary for your advocacy.

This means that all eight contract buses are new, have effective air-conditioning and heating, have cameras inside the bus and are GPS tracked. With all seats forward facing and coach like acoustics all students, supervisors and drivers are much safer, happier and considerably better off than 3 years ago. These buses cost approximately $430,000 each. Thank you to the Student Transport Unit and Dysons.

Roll Call is another innovation and as mentioned in an earlier newsletter, will be the introduced later in 2018. The easiest way to understand how this will work is to go to the Roll Call website and view the YouTube clip. When viewing the website and video please be aware that for Concord School:

  • students will NOT need a card to touch on/touch off , this will be done by the supervisor.
  • Roll Call will only be used on the Dyson contract buses and not for our own excursions and school trips.

Picking up students prior to 3:00

Can parents and carers where possible avoid collecting students prior to 3pm. Not only does this early pickup impact on student programs and learning it is placing considerable demands on front office staff to manage the large numbers of requests from 2pm each day. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Student Representative Council (SRC)
