Principal's Report

Newsletters for 2018

You will have noticed that this year you are receiving a newsletter each week. While the school is still sending home fortnightly whole school newsletters, this year you will have received newsletters specific to your child’s section of the school on ‘alternate’ weeks.

This section newsletter contains important dates as well as information on what the students have been learning over the previous two weeks and what they will be learning over the coming weeks. We aim to ensure that each child (who has photo permission) is in at least one photo in each newsletter so please wait for the photos to scroll through to view your child in action.

The text and the photos in the newsletter will assist you to talk to your child about what they have been learning at school. The photos can act as a stimulus for questions such as: What are you doing? Why are you doing this? Who are the other kids in the photo? Who are the teachers in the photo? What did you learn by doing this?

All whole school and section newsletters can be accessed through our school website at the following link https://inewsletter.co/Concord-School

School Council

School Councils play a key role in Victorian government schools. A school council develops a vision for the school in collaboration with all members of the school community and is actively involved in the development of the school’s strategic plan.

Following the recent School Council election process, I am delighted to welcome Shanntelle McDonald (mother of Madison in Lower Primary) onto the School Council. I sincerely thank Allison Matters and Viv Butler, who served for many years, for their contribution to School Council.

The 2018 School Councillors are:

Mark Lancaster (father of Travis in Secondary 7/8)

Tammy Johnston (mother of Cooper in Secondary 7/8)

Paul Guest (father of Lachlan in Secondary 9/10)

Sophie Stevenson (mother of Evy in Lower Primary)

Jo Huybers (mother of Emma in Secondary 7/8)

John Qiu (father of Callum in Upper Primary)

Kylie Lewin (mother of Ryan in Secondary 7-8)

Carmel Zammit (mother of Brayden in Secondary 9/10)

Sarah Abbott (Leading Teacher)

Colin Simpson (Assistant Principal)

Kath Moore (Assistant Principal)

Helen Edmonds (Acting Assistant Principal)

Jason Coningsby (Principal – Executive Officer)

Parent Volunteer information

Just a quick reminder that the Parent Volunteer Information sessions will be held on Monday 19th (5pm - Bundoora) and Tuesday 20th (9.15am - Watsonia) March. Please note that these are identical sessions and that only one of the sessions needs to be attended. This session is compulsory for all parents/carers who wish to volunteer in the school this year.

Student Accident Arrangements

Parents are reminded that the DET does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. Student accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare or private health insurance.

Curriculum Days

Government schools in Victoria are required to have four Curriculum Days (Pupil Free Days) each year. Concord School, as we do each year, had two of these days at the beginning of the year. I can advise that the two remaining Curriculum Days for the year will be on Monday, 21st May and Monday, 26th November. Please make a note of this in your calendars.

School Communication and the Use of Compass

It is important that all parents log into Compass so our school can communicate effectively with you. If you have any questions regarding Compass, or are having difficulty in logging-on, then please ring Karen Jordan at our school on 94673972. The Compass log-on can be found at https://concordsch-vic.compass.education or through the ‘Compass Parent Portal’ link on our website.

School Uniform

This is a reminder that it is compulsory for all students to wear the full school uniform each day and that the school uniform policy is strictly enforced. Thank you to parents/carers who have supported their children in wearing the correct school uniform.

For parents/carers of students in Years 7-12, class teachers will be informing you as to which days the sports uniform is to be worn. Please note the following policy in regard to the wearing of the school jumper.

Sport Uniform

The red woollen jumper is not to be worn with the ‘sport uniform’. Only the spray jacket and/or rugby jumper are to be worn with the ‘sport uniform’ over the polo shirt.

Formal Uniform

The spray jacket is not to be worn directly on top of the school shirt or dress. The red woollen jumper is the first item that must be worn if the student is cold. The spray jacket can then be worn over the red woollen jumper if the student is still cold.

Please contact Deb Whiteway in the school office regarding purchases of uniform. Further information, including policies and price lists, can be found through the school website at http://www.concordsch.vic.edu.au/our-school/school-uniform/

Principal's Award

The principal's award goes to Leah Berry

Leah is a happy student who has developed into a confident young girl. She comes to school with a positive attitude and is always ready for the day’s activities.

Leah is a wonderful friend to all students and always encourages them to do their best. Leah is caring, respectful and considerate and well-liked by her peers.

Congratulations on this wonderful achievement.

Well done Leah.
