Semester Reports

It’s coming up to that time of year again where students receive their reports which summarise their achievements in subjects for the semester.  Years 7-11 Semester Reports will be available on the last day of Term, 29 June.

Year 12 Unit 3 VCE and VCAL reports will be available after the break at the end of the second week of Term 3, 27 July.  This is to enable assessments for the first Unit to be completed and also so examination results for the Unit 3 VCE subjects can be included on the report.

The reports provide valuable information on the student’s progress and achievement for the first semester of this year and should be discussed with your son or daughter.  A focus of these discussions could be on developing strategies to assist with implementation of the recommended areas for improvement that are included for each subject.

Proud of You Market Day

In May, the St Albans Secondary College community was proud to host the “Proud of You” market day. The College, Student Leaders and VCAL students in consultation with Brimbank Youth Services, Headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation and the Rotary Interact Club developed a fun day in support of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia. At SASC one of our key messages to all our students (and staff) is that we are proud of you and will support you to be your best self. Some of the activities organised by students at the market day included a BBQ, food stalls, craft activities, a photo booth, badge making, a photo booth, mental health stalls and a pledge against discrimination.  This important day in our school calendar is a reminder of the important role everyone plays in supporting all students at our school to feel safe and secure.

Sydney Dance Company

Year 9 dance students had an amazing opportunity to work with Sydney Dance Company (SDC) this term. SDC is one of Australia’s premier contemporary dance companies and have performed on stages around the world, including the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Joyce Theatre in New York. Thanks to the hard work of the St Albans Secondary College Dance Department our dance students were offered a paid excursion to SDC’s latest performance at the Melbourne Arts Centre and were able to complete a practical workshop with SDC dancers at the College.

Proactive Program Week

Next week all Year 10 students will be involved in proactive programs week. During this week students will explore a range of topics and be involved in activities that support their mental health and wellbeing. Outside providers will work with students to understand how to use physical activity to develop wellbeing and a range of lessons will support students’ holistic development.

Resilient Mindsets

The College has formed a partnership with renowned clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller to explore ways we can build the resilience of our school community. All staff at the College have already spent one professional learning day developing an understanding about different mindsets, how to develop a resilient mindset in themselves and how to support students to do the same. Our vision for the future is to continue to develop these skills in all members of our school community to ensure our school is resilient and strong.

Multicultural Day

On Friday 25 May the Year 12 VCAL students ran a very successful multicultural event at the front of the school. food from many cultures was available for purchase, and there was entertainment from a range of performance groups. Well done to all the Year 12 VCAL students for their organisation of the day, as well as to Ms Gough, Ms Cassar and the entire VCAL teaching team.

Careers

The past few weeks have been a very busy time in the Careers department. Year 9 students have completed a careers program, ad Year 10 students completed the last stage of Careers  Fast track. Year 10 students have also be getting prepared for work experience, which will take place from 18 to 22 June.

All of these programs are important leading up to Term 3 when students will make important decisions regarding subject for either Year 10 or VCE. Please contact Ms Cathy Armstrong in the Careers Department if you have any questions about our MIPs program.

And finally...

These few weeks are a demanding and very busy time of the year for students and staff, with all that exams and reports entail. Thank you for your support, as parents, during this period.

Next Friday, 15 June is Report Writing Day, and semester reports will be available to families in the last week of this term.
