From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

It’s a pleasure to welcome you back to Term 3. Whilst Semester 2 commenced for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 at the end of last term, Years 7, 8 & 9 students began their second semester this term. In order to support all students to successfully complete the semester and year, Year Level Coordinators have been interviewing students who have been identified as needing additional support and encouragement, particularly those whose results were unsatisfactory in two or more subjects. If you have any questions about your daughter or son’s Semester 1 reports, please make sure you call or email their coordinators to discuss your concerns.

A special welcome….

To the new students and families who have joined St Albans Secondary College this term. We hope you enjoy your time at our school, that you form strong friendships, and that you feel supported to achieve your goals and dreams.

We also extend a warm welcome to several staff who have joined our college this term: Mr Pat Bruce is replacing Ms Becky Annetts whilst she is on family leave, and Mr Giuliano Lasco takes over from Ms Clara Campbell who is on family leave. Ms Lynne Borle is taking Mr Eli Goldbaum’s classes and Mr Nghia Troung replaces Mr Mario Orsini. Ms Serife Erten joins our Student Wellbeing Team as a counsellor working with the Junior Sub School.

It is also wonderful to welcome back Cameron Beale, Felicity Diallo and Lynette French. We wish each of you all the very best.

Baby News

Congratulations to Clara Campbell on the birth of her daughter, Hazel Ann, on Friday, 20 July. Clara, Richard and Hazel are all well and happy.

And to Becky Annetts who welcomed her little boy, Fraser Graham Alexander on Monday, 23 July. Both are doing very well.

MAC – Seussical the Musical

Next week is MAC week – one of the highlights of our school calendar, and such a vital part of the history and tradition of our school. And this year’s production promises to continue that tradition in style.

Evening performances are being held on Tuesday 7, Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 August at 7:00pm in the Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are available from the General Office. We hope you are able to come along to support the students and staff who have worked so hard for almost a year to produce this show.

Heartfelt thanks and best wishes for show week to Janet McKenzie, Nick D’Aglas, Chloe Marie, Emily Simones, Melrose Tran and James Orchard, and to the cast and crew of Seussical.

VCAL and VCE information night

Our Year 10 students are currently preparing to select their courses and subjects for either VCAL or VCE in 2019. Preparing students to make these significant choices commenced much earlier in the year with all Year 10’s completing a career assessment and planning assignment.

Prior to course selection day this week, over 200 parents and students attended the VCAL & VCE Information Night. Led by Mr Brendan McFarland, Middle Sub School Leader, and Ms Cathy Armstrong, Managed Individual Pathways Coordinator, the evening provided a great opportunity for parents to learn about the two courses, pathway opportunities, our Promotion Policy, VET and work placement, and the achievements of past students.

Thank you to parents who came out in the rain, and to Brendan, the Middle School Team, and Cathy Armstrong for their organisation of a really successful night.

SASC Snapshot

The image below is a great visual representation of who we are and where we come from. We are so proud that our school is made up of many nationalities and enjoy any chance we get to celebrate our diverse cultures.
