St Albans wins first place at prestigious Dante alighieri poetry competition
On Monday, 26 June, the Italian department had the pleasure of escorting 68 students from Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 into the city to participate in the prestigious Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition at Melbourne University. Students travelled into the city by train and competed alongside many other secondary schools in Melbourne. Over 3,000 students will compete in the language competition across Melbourne.
Students were required to recite by memory selected poems in front of a panel of expert judges. They were marked on their pronunciation, fluency and delivery.
Students and teachers then made their way to the famous Lygon St, Carlton where they practised their language skills, tasted the culinary delights and shopped for all things Italian!
It is with great pleasure that we announce that 6 of our students made it through to the finals.
These 6 students then competed in an elimination final and Jamal Baba of year 9 took out first place. We are extremely proud of his efforts and congratulate him and the Italian teachers on this great achievement.

Italian / french study tour 2019
Bunnings Fundraising
On Saturday 16 June, we held a fundraiser for our Italian/French Study Tour of 2019. It was an extremely successful day and we were able to raise funds that will help off-set some of the costs for students and their parents.
A big thank- you to all the students and parents who contributed their time and effort either to man the sausage sizzle or to make and sell cupcakes. Our next fundraiser, a cake/cupcake stall will be on 1 September at Bunnings in Sunshine. If anyone would like to help in anyway, please contact either Ms Biondi, Ms Honeycombe, Ms Mackintosh or Ms Morrison at the school.
French Visit to St Albans
In Term 3, The French students will experience a visit from Francois (Frankie) from Paris. Frankie will visit some classes and speak to the students in his native language. Students will prepare questions to ask him and he will speak about his life in Paris. The students will have the opportunity to converse with Frankie in his language and learn about his life. This authentic experience will be invaluable. Frankie will also learn about schooling at St Albans Secondary College and we hope he enjoys visiting us.
