Deputy Principals' Report

Dear Parents and Friends,

Another busy week at St Finbar's. The Talent Show is well under way.

The Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders are hard at work organising our Mental Health Day this Friday. The teachers are gathering assessments, interpreting data on each student and preparing other pieces of evidence to write personalised reports, that reflect the hard work of each student and teacher! Unbelievably we are organising the Carols evening for Wednesday 4th December at 6:30pm, and wondering where the year has gone? An even bigger reminder of this was welcoming our 2020 Preps on Monday and seeing how grown up our current Preps now look.

Do you see what I see?

Dimity W, Ebony D, Emma S and Sasha M are to be congratulated for their work in this new Student Wellbeing leadership portfolio. I am very proud of each of them and have enjoyed working with them enormously. This Friday they are presenting a St Finbar's Mental Health Day Awareness initiative. They have shared information regarding this day with each teacher. The International Day of Mental Health was celebrated on the 10th October, but this Friday 15th of November works better for our school community.  Each student is invited to wear a touch of colour. Each class will explore the theme 'Do you see what l see?' and each student will write on a sticky note something that would make someone else who walks by happy (the sticky notes can be heart shaped). This idea is an original one from the leaders.

The Wellbeing leaders will also be speaking at assembly about Mental Health and raising awareness, this Friday.

Please watch this clip outlining the theme:  We All Have Mental Health.

Australian Maths Competition

The Australian Maths Competition certificates have FINALLY arrived (there were delays on their end) and students will be bringing them home along with their AMC results on Friday.  Some students will be presented with their certificate at assembly. Once again St Finbars' students have achieved some impressive results with one High Distinction, nine Distinctions and 37 Credits.

VCOP Christmas Letter Exchange

This year St Finbar's has fully embraced the VCOP Big Write program with the intention of raising the quality of our students' writing.  Once again, VCOP has initiated a Christmas letter-writing project in order to give students across Australia the opportunity to write for an authentic purpose.  There has been much excitement as letters arrive on a daily basis for our Year 1, 3 and 5 classes, and the letters are being displayed as they arrive in the classrooms.
