Principal's Report

Prep Information Evening

What an exciting day it was on Monday when our new 2020 Prep students visited as a part of their orientation program.  The parent evening was also a major success with most families in attendance.  Thanks to Miss Nonie Kay, Miss Sigrid Happell, Mrs Yvette Porter, Mrs Liz Freeman, Mrs Cathy Ferrari and Miss Michelle Hill for organising and assisting at the evening session.  I can confirm our 2020 Prep teachers will be Miss Kay and Miss Happell.  I would also like to give a personal thanks to the four Year 6 students - Lucas, Tessa, Sophia & Antony for speaking to the parents about their memories of St. Finbar's.

Staff Departures

Miss Caitlin Liels (Year 5L) has announced this week that she has been appointed as a classroom teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ringwood.  Miss Liels joined us as a graduate teacher in 2016 and has been a wonderful asset to the school during the past 4 years.  We wish her well as she embarks on the next chapter in her teaching career closer to home.  We are currently advertising for an experienced teacher to replace her in the senior school area.  Staff appointment updates will be made available in coming newsletters.

Remembrance Day

I would like to acknowledge our Year 6 SRC captains - Matthew, Patrick, James and Roy, who attended the Green Point Cenotaph with me on Monday morning.  I was very proud to see our young gentlemen lay a wreath on behalf of the St. Finbar's community with the wider Brighton Community present.

Book you tickets here!

RSVP: Thursday 14th November.

Let's end the year with a fun night for all!

Walk to D'Feet MND

It’s that time of year again where some families and staff don our runners and MND t-shirts and walk around Princes Park for a very worthy cause.  This year will be particularly significant as it's the first Walk to D’Feet MND in honour of our much loved James, father of Angelica C in 2G.   Also, in memory of James we will continue to use his chosen team name - Jamelica.  Good luck to the team of walkers this weekend.

If you would like to donate, please click on the link below.

Pre-School Story Time

We will again be offering Pre-School storytime this year in the Library on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm to 3:30pm on 20th, 27th November.  All preschoolers are welcome to attend.  Miss Kay and Miss Happell our 2020 Prep teachers will run these exciting sessions.

iSea, iCare Ambassadors

Congratulations to Mrs Norton and our Year 6 Sustainability Captains - Ruby, Juliet, Luca and Ava-Jane who represented St. Finbar's in the iSea, iCare Ambassador program this year.  Mrs Norton was awarded the 2019 'Teacher of the Year' for her outstanding efforts and St. Finbar's School was the joint winner for the 'School of the Year' award.  Well done to all involved.

Year 5 & 6 T-20 Cricket

Congratulations to our Year 5 & 6 T-20 cricket teams who competed last Friday in Kooyong.  It was a brisk day with the weather just holding out for us and a lot of fun had by all students.  Thanks to all parents and staff for their assistance on the day, and as always, a big thank you to Mrs Thompson for all of her organisational work done in the background.

Tag On Kiosk

The 'Tag On' Kiosk is up and running and it has been great to see over 200 of our students actively using this device this week.  The data collected from this initiative will assist us with our active travel / Ride on data that we assess every year.  It also instantly sends an email to parents letting them know that their child has arrived safely at school.

Classroom Furniture

On Monday of next week, our new classroom furniture for Years 4-6 will be arriving.  Tomorrow (Friday 15th November) I will be placing some of our unwanted furniture (Tables and Chairs) out front of the hall.  All families are welcome to take any of this furniture free of charge.

God Bless,

Pat Berlingeri
