A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LYMAN

Dear BAMS Families,

2020 is here and I would like to wish you a Happy New Year and I hope you had a nice holiday season. I am hopeful your child/children are refreshed and ready to be back in school.

As we approached the break, there were a variety of efforts by BAMS students and staff to support local fundraising efforts to help families in need. Our students brought in many food and supply items to support Project Feed. We hosted a holiday gift shop that was for students to find gifts for others. There were hundreds of quality donations to the gift shop. Team Draco spent time before the break doing good deeds in the community and visited the animal shelter, Pine Heights and cooked for the food pantry.

Some of our students had the opportunity to show their circus arts skills during a two-week program run by Erin Maile O'Keefe. Teachers Junie Pereira, Gabriella Pulito, and paraprofessionals CJ Pride, Sue Mitchell, and Sheila Tkaczyk did an amazing job in support of our students. This program has been primarily funded by the Francis Hicks Foundation. The students learned many physical skills but also many cooperative and teamwork skills. They performed a final show before the break and a few photos are included below.

Our students showed their spirit by participating in Spirit Week during the week before the break. We finished the last day with a school-wide volleyball tournament and Pep Rally. Our Student Leadership members led by Stephanie Pike and Chris Brewer did an amazing job creating fun activities for the students. We also had a holiday-themed door decorating contest before the break. The students and staff had a blast decorating their doors. We had over 30 entries! Below you will see a few photos.

The next few weeks are relatively quiet regarding major school events. Team Canis Major and Team Taurus will be taking a field trip to the skating rink, student leadership is attending training at Landmark College, and quarter 2 will be closing on Friday, January 24. The winter sports teams are beginning their game schedules and we look forward to seeing our teams play well. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and on Monday, January 27th for a teacher in-service day.

All my best to a happy and healthy 2020!

BEAMS SESSION III

The third session of BEAMS begins on Monday, January 13th and will end on February 28th. Registration forms were distributed to all students before the December break and are also available here or in the BAMS front office. Please complete and return the registration forms as soon as possible to guarantee a place in your student's favorite club.  For questions or information regarding BEAMS, please contact Jill Kelley, BEAMS Director at (802) 689-0023 or email, jkelley@wsesdvt.org.

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

Many thanks to the parents and guardians who call the school to report an absence or tardy.  When a student is marked absent and we have no word from home, our concern is for your child's safety;  we want to be sure they are safe and accounted for.  There are three ways to contact BAMS to report attendance; the BAMS main number is 802-451-3500, my direct line is 802-451-3533 and my email is dpetrovsky@wsesdvt.org  You can leave a message at any time to report an absence or tardy.

Here are a few tips for success

*Good attendance starts the night before.  Children need about 9 to 11 hours of sleep according to the National Sleep Foundation.  When the lights go out, so should cell phones, video games and computers.

*Establish positive evening routines that allow time for your child to complete homework.  Being prepared can help lessen any anxieties when it comes to attending school the next day.

*Don't promote or tolerate your child being absent from school.  Talk to your child about the importance of attending school every day.

*If your child is missing 2 or 3 days of school per month, he or she is already on the wrong track.  This will end up totaling more than one month of lost school by the end of the year.  Don't forget: sending your child to school is required by law.
