Catholic Mission Week

This week we have been fundraising for Catholic Missions and Mini Vinnies Drought relief. We have had a number of activities planned. We look forward to everyone’s support to raise money for these very important charities.

Thursday is Silly Socks and Coin line Day- students are asked to wear the uniform with colourful socks. In past years students have not only worn them on their feet but have accessorised their uniform with many pairs of socks! Students bring in coins for this day and these will be added to a coin line. We will be looking for the grade that has the longest coin line.

For more information please visit the Catholic Mission website.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Charlotte Travers (1F) and her family on the arrival of a baby boy on Monday!

Condolences

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Liam Starr (1F) and his family after the death of Liam's grandfather in the school holidays and to Lillie (6M) and Harry (4K) Kelly and their family on the death of their grandfather.

We also send our deepest sympathy to the family of Marcia Hopley. Marcia passed away last week and, in previous years Marcia has been a regular face on our teaching staff as a  casual teacher. Marcia was also a previous parent of our school.

Class Visits

Next Wednesday Kindergarten and 1L will be receiving a visit to their classrooms from Fr Sampson.

Pilgrimage to Ireland

For the two weeks of the holidays, Mrs Flynn and Mrs McRae, along with other staff and their partners from the Armidale Catholic Schools Office, attended a Pilgrimage tour through the Heartland of Ireland.

They visited many religious sites including the Ballintubber Abbey, The Rock of Cashel and the Shrine at Knock where on the evening of the 21st of August 1879 Our Lady appeared at the gable of the church in the company of St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist.  They also visited the Edmund Rice center in Waterford, the resting place of Bishop Delaney in Tullow and Catherine McAuley's house in Dublin. They were able to celebrate mass each day with Fr Anthony Koppman, the group's chaplain.  Finding out more about the roots of our Irish Catholic heritage was incredibly inspiring and has provided them a wonderful opportunity for the deepening of their faith.

Mini Vinnies

Last week Mini Vinnies were very privileged to have a visit from some of the Ezidi refugee children that are now living in Armidale. Mini Vinnies had decided to use their prize money from the Ex-services Club, to help the refugee community. Fay Paris, who is the coordinator for the refugee community, suggested we might like to donate sand toys for the children to take on a visit to the beach. On Thursday Fay brought a group of the children to visit us at school to receive the gift of buckets and spades. The Ezidi children presented a slideshow on their culture and life here in Armidale. It was a fabulous experience for all. We hope they enjoy their trip to the beach!
