Vic. SRC Congress Convention in Melbourne

From 10th to 12th of July, three students travelled to Ormond College at the University of Melbourne for three days to attend the VIC. SRC’s Annual Congress. The Congress consisted of workshops, action teams and an amazing Gala Dinner held on the second night.

On the first day of attending we listened to several pitches (ideas on what we would like to see changed in our education system) and we had the opportunity to vote on which ones were important and which ones we thought could be used next year instead. After voting on which ones we liked, they sorted us into groups which we called ‘Action Teams’; these would be our groups for the rest of the camp and the ideas we would work on for the Lightning Lobby at Congress Open Morning on Day 3.

During the first and second day, we attended two workshops of our choice. These were used to learn new skills in different areas and also create bonds with other people. On the second night, all 160 delegates attended the Gala Dinner, themed ‘Four Decades, One Night’. This gave all students an opportunity to eat and dance and also have a lot fun. The Gala Dinner was by far one of the best events held by Congress and will be one to remember.

On the third and final day we were a part of the Lightning Lobby and Congress Open Morning. This gave us all a chance to showcase our issues/topics/ideas.

All in all, Congress was honestly one of the best experiences that we, as students, have ever had and we are definitely planning on going back next year.

Shrek Jnr

Recently, a number of St. Joseph's College  students featured in the musical "Shrek Jnr" performed in Kyabram. Liz Dillon of Dillmac Entertainment produced and co-directed the production and spoke very highly of the amazing St. Joseph's students who were involved in the show. Kate Thomson played the Gingerbread Man and Fairy, Ruby Oman played Pinocchio, Indi Gilmore played Teen Fiona and the Dragon, and Macey Larkin played the Story Teller and Dragon Carrier. The four girls were absolutely amazing as their roles, but also as team members and were such wonderful inclusive people. Congratulations to these four girls - we celebrate your achievements in the arts.
