Year 10 Careers Camp
At 7.00am on 27th June the Year 10’s headed to Melbourne for a three-day Careers Camp. This year we were very fortunate to be able to stay at Ormond College in Melbourne. This gave the students a very real understanding of life as a University student and living in residency.
Over the first two days students attended four workshops showcasing a variety of different career options that are available to them. Some of the students visited Universities around Melbourne. They visited Melbourne University to have a tour and talk about courses, and others went to the Australian Catholic University, RMIT, Monash, and William Angliss to name a few.
The range of workshops were varied and interesting and enabled students to think about their options for the future and to assist them with their subject selections.
Students visited Carlton Football Club where they were given a private tour by Andrew Walker, and others were able to visit a construction site in the city. ChinChin was a highlight; students were given a tour and talk from one of Australia’s top chefs and learned a lot about the different options employment options there are in the hospitality industry. If students were interested in music then JMC Academy and Box Hill TAFE were very exciting options and for those who love hair and beauty they were able to visit Elle Lucas and also Headmasters. This year we were also very fortunate to visit the Bendigo Bank and Stanley Wealth Management, a finance company in Collins Street, Melbourne, and the Law Courts.
Wednesday evening we were visited by three of St. Joseph’s College past students: Stephanie Ryan MP, Xavier Campbell – CEO Essendon Football Club, and Shane McCurry who is a motivational speaker. Students were given a talk about their pathway from St. Joseph’s College and how they have managed to succeed in their chosen careers.
On Thursday night after two exhausting but fun-filled days it was time to head to the ice skating rink where almost all students attempted to stay upright on the ice. A great night and very funny for those of us who did not skate.
Friday it was off to the Jimmy Stynes Reach Program followed by a well earned bit of relaxation at the Melbourne Zoo.
Hopefully the students enjoyed the experience, and have also learned a little about their pathway and what is needed for them to achieve their goal.

Spotjobs Careers Expo
On Friday morning 20th July, the Year 11 students headed to Melbourne to visit the Spotjobs Careers Expo at the Exhibition Centre in Melbourne.
Students were able to wonder around the exhibition and talk to the many presenters that were there including: Ambulance Victoria, Victorian Police, Defence Force, Moorabbin Flying School, Deakin University and Victoria University to name a few. There were also seminars that they could attend on handling VCE, and Applying to the Defence Force etc.
After a quick lunch at the DFO in Southbank it was off to LaTrobe University in Bendigo. Upon arrival we were ushered into a Lecture Theatre where students heard about all that LaTrobe offers, the application process, and the Aspire Program etc. After a question and answer session students were given a tour of LaTrobe from current students. This was very beneficial to the students as they were given an opportunity to ask them about life as a student and also their pathway into the courses that they now love.
Hopefully the students enjoyed the experience, and have also learnt a little about their pathway and what is needed for them to achieve their goal.
