Writing
Students have been working on their debates. Students were placed into groups, given a topic and are constructing either affirmative or negative arguments. They have spent the last week or so gathering evidence to use in their arguments and thinking of rebuttals. We will present the debates next week.
Reading
Our reading focus has been Making Connections. We can make connections to self, to text or to world while we read. Students are very good at making connections to their own personal experiences and have shown great improvement in making connections to other texts as well as world issues.
Maths
We have just started a focus on length in Maths as well as addition and subtraction. Students are learning about using rulers to measure objects and converting between millimetres(mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m) and kilometres (km).
Inquiry
While the 4-6 class have had a focus on Government leading up to their camp in Week 8,
the Foundation – Grade 3 class have been working on minibeasts. We have explored the minibeast wildlife website (found at https://www.minibeastwildlife.com.au/) and made small presentations to show the definition of a minibeast, the difference between a minibeast and an insect and a list of minibeasts we are interested in. We are hoping to find some minibeasts in our gardens to create environments for and learn how to look after them.
Students reflections on the Athletics Day
The athletics were held on Tuesday the events were long jump, distance, triple jump, sprint, shot put, and high jump. Everyone was talking to their friends from different schools and the preps were meeting new people. My favourite event was high jump, at the end everyone at school sports were watching Ned, Wirra and I. In the end it was a 3 way tie on 1.26m and I was the age champion in the 12-13 year olds. I managed this with a Broken hand! By Lachlan
On Tuesday, it was the school sports. It was a really great day full of fun, meeting new friends, athletics and much more. The sports that we did were high jump, shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, sprint and distance. There was only six girls in my group and about 13 boys so nearly all the time the girls got to go first. In my age group for the girls Lily came first Claire came second and Ivy came third. In the boy Lachlan came first Wirra came second and Paul came third. By Audrey
On Tuesday the 21st of May, I woke up pumped with energy hoping that all the practicing we did would pay off. Julukbia and I got ready for school exactly how we did every morning except with much more excitement around half an hour later we had arrived at the sports. This year I was in the 11yo girls age group with Millie, Zoe and Victoria from Whitfield , Rachel from Edi upper and Mazie from Greta. The first event was shot put, then I had triple jump, followed by distance. I was in the lead for the whole first lap until the next quarter of a lap Millie overtook me. I had lost my pace and was coughing badly then Rachel and Mazie and Zoe passed me but I came fifth and bet my personal best. We had long jump and then came the sprint I came first and bet my personal best. Millie came second by 30 hundredth of a second. Second last event was discus, I don’t know exactly what place I came but I didn’t beat my personal best at all. Finally came high jump I came around last place but I still bet my personal best than we had a relay. By Mia
