Wrapping up Term 3

WOW! Where has the time gone! We have been so busy in term 3 and time has flown by. We have just 1 term left before we say goodbye to all our Grade 2's who will be heading to Middle School. This term we have had Mrs Sargood Incursion, our fantastic production, book week, 2 celebration days, Footy day, Junior Night Experience and SOOOO much learning! I wonder what adventures we will have in Term 4.

Production

What an amazing fun time we had at production. Our Grade 1's looked amazing in all their black and bling and the Grade 2's sparkled in their hats and vests. In the lead up to the night, all the students were buzzing with excitement and begged to practise the dances over....and over.....and over. Their dedication paid off! Thank you to all the parents who helped out with costumes and various other things for the production. We hope you all had a great night. We sure did!!

Literacy

Reading: We have been looking at summarising the books that we read. Students have been retelling stories in their own words making sure they tell them in sequential order. This is a very important skill to master because it shows us  that the child has understood what they have read, as they read it. You can practise this skill with your children at home to extend their learning!! Be sure to check in with your child regularly and ask them what has been happening in the story they are reading .

Who are the main characters?

Why did they make certain decisions?

What is the setting for the story?

What happened at the Start - Middle - End?

What was the problem in the story and how was it solved?

These questions will help students to reflect while they are reading, to build comprehension and learn vital retelling skills.

Writing: In writing we have been looking at poetry writing. We have looked at rhyming couplets, free form poems, similes, onomatopoeia, alliterations and more! Poetry writing can be tricky for young writers but it has been just fantastic to see their humorous sides and their personalities come out in their writing. We hope to have our own personal anthology of poems published and ready to go home the first week back in term 4. So keep an eye out!!

Celebration Day

Thursday we had yet another fantastic celebration day! This time the choice was whole school sports. Students AND TEACHERS, mixed to play downball, football and basketball all together as a school. There was so much laughter and fun! We also all looked in the zone by wearing our footy colours on the day too. After an hour of whole school sports, we wrapped it up with a hot dog footy lunch!! What more could we ask for! Bring on the next 3,000 positive acknowledgements celebration day!

Term 4

Finally Karen Black, Lisa Hubbard, Rhonda, Wendy and Mary would all like to wish you and your family a very safe and fun school holiday break. We hope your football team wins the final (if they are playing) and we hope that everyone has plenty of rest, relaxation and fun! We all look forward to seeing everyone return for our final term this year. Stay Safe......Have Fun!
