FAMILY LIFE PARENT INFO SESSION

On Wednesday 10th June we will be running a Family Life Parent Information Session. This is to be held at 7pm in the Senior Building. Please make sure you return the reply slip to your child's teacher. Family Life sessions begin in Term 3 (end of July) and students will participate in 3 sessions. The cost for this program will be included in the Term 3 Student Levies.

HOMEWORK

What an improvement we've seen with the new reward in place! It is great to see students so enthusiastic to return their homework on time. Homework is now handed out on Tuesdays, with an incentive being offered if it is returned by Friday. We understand that this is not ideal for some families with busy week nights, so you will notice that the due date is still Monday if the weekend is needed to compete tasks. Feedback from parents is that this is working better for them and their child.

WEBINAR

Last week, Senior School students participated in a 'Making good choices' webinar session which was focused around Cyber Safety. This is the second webinar that the students have participated in and they are becoming very familiar with how a webinar is conducted and how to share their contributions via technology. Students learnt about TEC - Think, Evaluate and Consider. Students actively engaged and followed up with a great discussion.

YMCA

This week the Senior School started a series of sessions of 'Empowering the Leader Within' run by YMCA. This week our students met the leaders Kieran, Anthony and Amanda who ran a 'get to know you' activity. The students had lots of fun greeting each other in ways that other countries do. Ask them how you greet a friend in Turkey or if you met them on a pirate ship! They played some fun games supporting each other and respecting each other as a leader.

MATHS

Senior School students have been doing some fantastic maths learning this term. Our previous topic was Location and Transformation. Students enjoyed learning about lines of symmetry and transforming (moving) shapes. Our current topic is Fractions and Decimals which we will be working on until the end of term.

WRITER'S NOTEBOOK

This week for our Writer's Notebook lesson we focused on a piece of descriptive writing using an image of a stimulus. Students used powerful describing words to create a 'Show, Don't Tell' piece of writing that helped the writer visualize what they were writing about.

Check out this amazing piece of descriptive writing below by Olivia S.

The land was beautiful and surreal at the same time, the deep blue sky above, the stunning rivers below. Tree branches intertwined into the emerald green leaves above. In the distance a roaring waterfall could be head above the distinct call of the native wildlife of the lush land beyond sight.

The rocks had drawings, moving about in the highlands. The sea sighed as the waves tumbled onto the bleach-white sand. Mountains sky scraped into the evening sky. Stars shimmered in the sapphire blue sheet above as owls called out to each other, as the wind eerily crept through the twisted trunks of the so many trees that were dotted across the stunning land.

The white moon shone above, reflected on the ever-flowing rivers that twisted and turned through the heart of the land. Fish leaped out of the water making the faintest of splashes as they swam along the purest rivers in the world.

The bushes were full of the sweetest most luscious of berries, as you could never buy them from any shop. This land was pure and untouched by any man. This land was magical in many ways. Never ending possibilities.
