This is my first year working at Scoresby Secondary College, and I love it!

I have been teaching Art for three years and have now introduced design and technology into my practice. This is something I had always wanted to do as I am a very hands on and creative person, so I undertook further training during 2018 to pursue one of my dreams.

I have always been into art and creativity, but really had no idea how I could employ art into my career.  During secondary school I had no idea what I wanted to be and where I would go.  I moved out of home midway through year 12 and found a life for myself away from my very rural upbringing.   After year 12, I worked odd jobs here and there; but none of these satisfied me. Eventually, I found a short course and became an integration aide at 19 years old.  After spending a year in the classroom as a teacher’s aide, I decided to enrol at Swinburne for the Diploma of Visual Arts.  It was there that I gained experience in various art practices and identified what it was that I really loved doing.

When I completed my Diploma, I applied for the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts and was accepted into a printmaking course, which taught me discipline and commitment to my artistic practice. Half way through this course I hit a road block and was unsure about what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to change courses and got into Deakin University to study a Double degree in Art and Teaching. This was the course that would push me to achieve something I never knew I could.  It was incredibly challenging, but it allowed me to learn from my mistakes and keep persisting when I was close to giving up.

Previous to teaching at Scoresby, I taught at a rural high school for two years which was challenging in its own right.  This year has been a very big change for me also.  I started a new job at Scoresby Secondary College as a Design and Technolgy, Art and VCAL teacher, and married my best friend on the Saturday 9 March this year.
