VCAL Bunnings Excursion

Currently we are in the planning phase of a major project which is the construction of planter boxes for the front entrance of our school.  On Thursday 23 May, the class went on an excursion to Bunnings, Knoxfield to learn more about constructing planter boxes.

At Bunnings we were given advice and taught the basic skills required to construct the planter boxes. We were shown the types of materials we should use and how to use drills and the electric saw safely.

We were given advice on the different types of fertilisers and plant feeds as well as what plants would work best together and within the environment of the planter box.

We split into our project groups and were given a guided tour through the nursery to look at the different types of plants suitable for the project.  We gathered ideas so when the time comes to plant we know what we want. We also looked at suitable timber for this project.

This excursion was an important step in our planning. Spending time with the experts and watching them construct a sample planter box firsthand, gave us a better understanding of the process that we will need to follow.
