MAGS Cricketers Make History!
Last week all our Year 3, 5 and 6 competed in the annual Woolworths Cricket Blast 8 tournament against other local schools from within the area. Unfortunately, our year fours were unable to compete due to being away on school camp.
Because of this, the Year 3 knew they were playing schools who, in the most part, mostly comprised of year four students! Undeterred, they gave a fantastic account of themselves; and in so doing were crowned tournament champions at the end of a very long day! A marvellous achievement, as it turns out, the first time in the history of the tournament that an all year three team has won outright. Congratulation to all three teams competing on the day you were all superb ambassadors for the school.
The very next day MAG quite literally marched what looked like a small army of very happy smiling faces out to compete in the same tournament, this time for our Year 5 and 6 students (the smiles were all for the love of cricket and not at avoiding any academic endeavour, so said all the students I asked).
Our eleven teams of eight all performed admirably, with students retelling tales of glorious one handed catches and scores of plus thirty off a single over! However, first place eluded our students on the day but our students sense of fair play, encouragement and team spirit was on display in every single game that was played.
Well done to all our teams, you were all magnificent!
As always these events do not run by themselves, I would like to thank all the staff who were involved on the day. Thank you, without your help this event would simply not have happened!
I would also like to thank all the student volunteers who helped coach, score and, most importantly, encourage our students to perform to the best of their abilities whilst adhering to our core values. You were all-fantastic and went above and beyond what was expected of you. Thank you.
Soccer 7's
It’s getting to the pointy end of the tournament which has seen teams from all year groups compete and hope to become the inaugural champions and have the honour of playing the staff all-star team! (I use that term very loosely). The results sheet makes for interesting reading with some very close games and a few upsets along the way. Well done to all the teams who have competed and congratulations to those teams still competing.
Superstar Going National!
Isabella Crossman is a girl on a mission. This gifted Year 6 sports house captain has taken her chosen sport of tennis to the very top level. Isabella will be competing in the under 12 hard court championships in December and carries the number 10 seed. Not only that but Isabella has also qualified for the Victorian 12 and under team and will face off against other states and territories in the forthcoming Margaret Court Cup Championships. We wish her every success. Well done Isabella!
