ANCA Workshops

On Friday 9 November, a number of Primary and Secondary singers had the privilege of participating in singing workshops presented by Sharon Batterham; Director of Southern Voices choir and President of the Australian National Choral Association Victorian chapter.

Workshops continued throughout the day and offered a wide range of learning opportunities for students from breathing techniques, articulation for singing and exercises for focus, to understanding the anatomy involved for singing.

Sharon led students through a range of repertoire and even prepared items for students to perform at our Remembrance Day service (held on the same day), as well as a concert in the afternoon for family and friends, showcasing what students had learnt and worked on during the day.

We thank Sharon for her valuable sharing of knowledge and expertise, and we look forward to future opportunities for Sharon to work with our students again.

Nude Food

This week the K-6 students along with their teachers, took part in a “Nude Food Challenge”. Students were challenged to bring a lunch box filled with lovely fresh food without packaging. Leaving the packaging at home and using containers that can be washed out and reused instead.

We are so proud at how our students have incorporated better ways of reusing and recycling this year and it was great to see students take it to the next level.

K-1 Maths games

On Monday, students from Kinder and Grade 1 took part in the annual Maths Games Day, hosted by our Enrichment Mathematics elective students.

Students completed a round-robin of maths activities including; estimating & measuring, tangrams & tessellations, fun with clocks, matchstick problems & puzzles, dice games, money maths, strategy & card games, counting and Buzz!

It was wonderful to see our younger students get so excited by mathematics and enjoying problem-solving and posing questions with their mentors from Years 9 and 10.

Beacon Leadership

Stuart Martin with students Andrew Martin, Hannah Weier, Isabelle Williams and Patrick Mathers who have performed duties as Beacon Leaders in 2018.

Students enjoyed a Luncheon at Johnny & Lyle with student leaders from other local schools to finish off their year and celebrate their achievements.

White Ribbon Day

Students participated in a march for White Ribbon Day, Friday 23 November, to create awareness and a sense of solidarity about and against domestic violence.  The Student leadership team assisted in creating White Ribbons for students and distributed them the morning of the march.

UNSW Global ICAS Assessment Distinctions

Year 6 student Zachary Anthony received a Distinction in both Mathematics and English in the UNSW Global ICAS Assessments.

The ICAS Assessments series is designed to assess students' ability to apply classroom learning in new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

Congratulations Zachary on a great achievement.

Year 11 Biology

For their first HSC summative assessment task, Biology students were required to research the structure of DNA and the process of DNA replication.  With their background research complete they were then asked to construct a 3D model that demonstrates the processes involved in replicating genetic material.  Their models needed to show a detailed and correct replication of a specific DNA sequence. Students were also required to reflect on the process, justify their material choices and communicate any problems they encountered. They were also required to detail the critical and creative thought processes they went through in order to produce their final product. The students have all put forth an admirable effort and they should be proud of what they have accomplished for a very difficult and conceptual process.

VET School Excellence Awards 2018

On Tuesday 13 November the Campaspe Cohuna LLEN held their annual VET in Schools Excellence Awards. Four VET Tourism students and two VET Primary Industries students from Moama Anglican Grammar were finalists at the awards.

VET Tourism:

  • Caitlin Ebsworth - Year 10
  • Thomas Keele – Year 10
  • Amelia O’Connell – Year 11
  • Tenaya Cox – Year 12

VET Primary Industries:

  • Ruby Wallace – Year 10
  • James Trewick – Year 10

These students went through a nomination process where they were asked to complete information on themselves about their interests, achievements, aspirations and future career hopes. Their teachers and work placement employers were asked for feedback on the students, looking for their perspective on a range of different skills and attitudes the students possessed. Each student then sat through a panel interview where they were exposed to a variety of questions about themselves and their place in the industry they were studying. Students also received some feedback on things they could do to improve their interview abilities, which would all be valuable experience for a job interview.

At the awards night our six finalists were all recognised and presented with a certificate and the winners of the categories were announced.

We are very proud to congratulate Caitlin Ebsworth as the VET Tourism Student of the Year and Ruby Wallace as the VET Primary Industries Student of the Year.
