LHS Boys Netball

On Monday 16 May, Lilydale High participated in Boys Junior, Intermediate and Seniors Netball at Pinks Reserve in Kilsyth. It started off as a chilly day, but after a while we all were warmed up and ready for the big day ahead.

In the first game, the intermediate boys were off to a blazing start, with our attack scoring in quick succession against the inexperienced Healesville team.  As the game went on, it continued that way with the game finishing 25-1 and LHS recording the  first win of the day.

In the second game,  we continued our good form. Although the Emerald 2 side were a step above the last team we played, our mid court continued producing the goods with many intercept passes and smart plays. In the end we recorded our second win 21-1.

Coming into game three, there were a couple of changes. Due to injuries, people were shuffled around and put in unfamiliar positions but still played at a high quality. Emerald 1 was the toughest  team we came up against during the day and although the end result of 22-6 and us winning again, they were a team above the rest we had played.

Game 4, we had to win.  If we won we would be one step closer to retaining that state championship that we had won the previous year. Coming up against another inexperienced side we showed what we could do. With unselfish plays in the front court and smart passes and great intercepts from the mid court and back court we were able to remain undefeated during the day.

For the other teams, although they may have lost a couple of games, they all played to the best of their abilities and although it being a new sport for most, they gave it a crack.

On behalf of all of us players, we'd like to thank Miss Cook, Mrs Rowson and Mr Phillips for helping out on the day and the student helpers who helped out the junior sides. We would also like to thank the umpires for their officiating on the day and the parents who came on the day to support us.

Year 7 Boys Footy

On Monday 23 May, around 55 Year 7 boys ventured out to Wesburn footy oval to take on Monbulk and Yarra Hills.

The first game was actually a LHS match between the A's and the B's. The A's came away with a comfortable win. This trend continued when the A team took on Yarra Hills before having a tough win against Monbulk.  The B team had a tough loss to the Monbulk team before having a win over the Yarra Hills team.

It was a great day of footy which saw both teams experience a win and several players standing out in both the A's and the B's.  Brodie Grey, Rory Smith and Reece Thomas were stand outs for the B team while Jude Hay, Will De Zylva and Rhyse White were a couple of the names on top of a long list of great players for the A team.

The A team are now training for the next round in the coming weeks. Good luck for the next round boys!

Intermediate Netball

Team 1

Last Tuesday, I had the pleasure of coaching the 1’s for 9/10 Netball. I had a very talented group of girls who worked extremely hard throughout the whole day.

After the first 3 rounds in section A pool, the team were undefeated and finished on top of the ladder and made it to the final. In the final the girls played against Emerald. The girls ended up winning the final 35 -6 to see them go straight through to Eastern Zone in August.

All the girls played so well on the day and showed positive encouragement towards each other in every game.

Special mention to Mia Sudomirski and Cailey Nolan for being the dominant goal scorers for the day and Tayla McCormack for taking the most intercepts.

Team 2

I had the pleasure of coaching the 2’s on Tuesday for 9/10 Netball. I had an incredible group of girls who put a lot of effort and energy into the tournament.

In the first 3 rounds of section A pool, we won 2 out of 3 games, only losing to our own school in the first game. We finished second on the ladder in our pool and made it to finals. In the finals we played against Monbulk.

The girls played extremely well and came away with a well-deserved win. This placed them 3rd overall on the day. All of the girls represented Lilydale High School so positively and proudly on the day.

Special mention to Chasca Russell who was our leading goal scorer for the day and Renee Condello for taking the most intercepts and in a position she wasn’t familiar with.

Ms Schroder

Team 3

From the moment we arrived the girls were super excited to take to the court and play their best netball.

The girls started off strong against Monbulk 3 winning 31-3 and managed to win their next 4 games after that, defeating Lilydale Heights 1: 25-9, Healesville: 14-8, Emerald: 24-8.

The girls were challenged in their last game against LHS 4, in what was a fun and exciting game against friends, however were able to come away with the win 15-10. The girls never gave up, always working as a team and showing a high and consistent level of skill.

The girls represented their school to the highest standard, demonstrating true sportsmanship by encouraging other teams and always respecting the umpires. I was really proud to be coaching such a great bunch of girls, who above all just wanted to have fun! Well done girls on such an outstanding effort!
