MATHS

Year 8 - 861

This week Mr Dean Izzard kindly allowed us into his classroom to see what his Year 8 (861) students were up to.

The students were completing their Common Assessment Task where they were writing a journal entry about an Algebra related task centre activity.

“We have to find out how many people are in the class altogether. We are using the little tiles to work it out. We will be looking for a pattern to find any number of students”–

Jai Thompson and Jemma Sheridan

“We have to work out how many sticks make up the triangles. If we have three sticks we can make one triangle. From there we will look for a pattern to find out sticks for any triangle” -

Geoffrey Cuya and Mitchell Blake

“We are looking at starting with one statue and putting tiles around it. Then if we have two statues we put double the amount of tiles. In the end we will be able to find the number of tiles for any number of statues” –

Tahli Hargrave and Matthew Luff
