Exam Protocol
As we are about to begin our examination timetable for Semester 1, it is a great time to remind students of exam protocol;
- All students are to complete their exams. This is an opportunity to not only practice for future exams, but to show an understanding of the skills and knowledge of your area of study
- Make sure that you check the timeable carefully
- If there is a class between exams, it is your responsibility to go to the VCE Office and complete a clash form to change the date/time
- You will need to be 15 minutes early for your exam
- You will need both your Student ID card and your VCAA number (writing this on the back of your card is a great idea!)
- Make sure that you have necessary materials ready to go; have you got your dictionary? Have you charged your calculator? Does your pen work?
- If an exam is not sat, there will be no further opportunity to redeem this
Amazing clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller has been working with the school and has put together a preparation guide just for you.
Andrew says 'If you have looked recently at an exam paper and thought, “I know that I know this but I can't remember anything”. If you have stayed awake in the middle of the night worrying about a test the next day, if you have ever felt butterflies in your stomach or a headache whenever you think of an coming test, then here are a few ideas to help you;
Unit 2 & 4
It’s time to say goodbye to Unit 1 and 3 and hello to Unit 2 and 4!
We will be commencing our new units after the exams have been completed. It is important that you are ready to learn, and do not view the end of the exams as a chance to take your foot off the pedal.
Make sure that you store all of your work from the previous unit of study, as you will need this as a revision tool.
Attendance
It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetables classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.
If students have reached their limit for absences from class, there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed.
Students can speak to their year level coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon study periods, or afterschool.
Failure to make up these classes will result in receiving an ‘N’ for this subject.
GAT
The General Achievement Test
It’s GAT time again! Our GAT will be running on Tuesday 7 June, between 10.00 am and 1.15 pm in the Hall and VCE Study Hall.
The GAT is an essential part of the VCE assessment procedures and all VCE students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3 and 4 sequences must sit the GAT.
The GAT is a test of general knowledge and skills in; Written Communication, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Humanities, ARTS and Social Sciences. Each represents a body of general knowledge and skills that students are likely to have built up through their school years.
Because it is a general test, no special study is required for the GAT. Students will already have done preparation for the GAT in past study of subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and History, where they have built up general knowledge and skills in writing, numeracy and reasoning. These are the knowledge and skills that will be tested.
Students can get a good idea of the questions by looking at previous GAT papers.
Students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these questions and note that all the information needed to work out the right answer is provided.
Absences/Compass
Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved. You can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.
You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
VCE SAC Redemption
Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school approved absence.
If there are extenuating circumstances, please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.
VCE Signing Out Procedure
If you have studies Period 5 or 6, you must sign out using the COMPASS Kiosk. A departure ticket will print with the current time you are leaving the school.
As always, if you are leaving early (and you have classes on), please make sure a parent or guardian approves this on COMPASS or provides a signed note with you. Please then sign out using the COMPASS Kiosk.

Yakult Factory Excursion
Friday 27 May
As a compulsory component of the Unit 3 Business Management Course, an excursion to the Yakult Factory in Dandenong South was organised. This excursion related to Area of Study 3: Unit 3 (Operations Management).
Students were given a guided tour of the facility and were addressed by the Operations Manager. There was also an opportunity for students to ask questions of staff at the plant.
