STUDENT LEADER'S NEWS

School Captains
Over the past few weeks we’ve had a lot going on from our Year 11 Presentation Balls to our success in the motocross field to our Grade 6 Information Evening and our Business Management classes Market Day.
Presentation Balls
This year, once again our Year 11 guys and gals endured weeks and weeks of practice leading up to 3 big nights full of anticipation. Everyone put a lot of effort into each night, including the hours spent on hair, make up and dress picking and that was just the boys! All 3 nights came together very well and all the presentees did themselves and their families proud.
A special thank you to Dani Devine, Natalie Roetman and the Senior School team for their organisation and to the staff who attended and supported the event.
Motocross
Our motocross teams represented the school very well in their recent competitions, with 6 firsts, and first overall in the whole school relay. Congratulations to all those involved.
Information Evening
The Information Evening on Tuesday 10 May, was a fantastic night with speeches from captains, as well as the Principals and teacher information speeches. This year also featured a sports medley, where students acted out a range of sports offered at the school and also modelled the uniform for the crowd to see. The school production made an sneak preview appearance with ‘The Wedding Singer’. It was great to see the night ran smoothly and was a success. Thank you to those who contributed to the evening.
Mid-Year Exams
We wish all those completing mid-year exams the very best and good luck!

Around the school by Brodie Gray
For the past few weeks we have been getting prepared for all of our Term 2 CATS, and finishing off the work we have been doing in class.
A few weeks ago, three sports went out to play against other schools; Football, Soccer and Netball. The footy team won all three games and have made it through to the regional competition to be played in the last week of Term 2.

Seth Franco Incursion
On Friday 20 May, Year 7 students attended a resilience and positivity talk from well known basketball player Seth Franco.
In this amazing incursion the Year 7's got involved and gave things a massive go, whether it be playing basketball with Seth Franco or simply giving him a high five. We all had an outstanding experience.
Seth was born in New York City. From a young age, Seth had a disability called Dysplasia. Hip Dysplasia is an occurrence in your body that happens with your hip joint has not been formed properly.
Seth’s dream was to become a professional basketball player, but after being told by ten different doctors that he wouldn’t be able to walk again he felt like he had nothing to live for.
Seth had a hard life and he found that it wasn’t easy to cope. When things got tough he didn’t face his fears but instead ran away from them. When he wasn’t able to walk he practiced many basketball tricks and tried to find something to live for again. Although things were tough he went through and tried to turn his pain into a positive.
After having hip implants on both hips, Seth believed that he could fulfil his lifelong dream of becoming a professional basketball player and he did. In 2003 he was the first Caucasian Harlem Globetrotter since 1942!
Seth’s message was that everyone goes through struggles in their life but if you push through it you’ll find the light at the end of the tunnel. If you try your hardest you will accomplish all your hopes and dreams and turn it into something more powerful than pain. And if you work hard enough, it’ll really pay off.

Year 8 Captains
For the last few weeks, Year 8 students have been working hard on their CATs and Significant Person Projects.
The Significant Person Project is a cross curricular activity worked on in English, Art/Ceramics and Music/Drama. Students have to select one person in their lives that means a lot to them and has effected their lives in a positive way. This project has been very thought provoking for everyone involved as it has made us look at what qualities we value in life.
Everyone in Year 8 has been doing really well and giving lots of effort. Let’s keep up the great work and finish this semester in a strong and positive way.

Resilience
Over the past couple of weeks, the Year 9 students have participated in resilience activities during Home Group.
In the 1st week, students focused on character strengths and emotions. They were asked to identify their top ten strengths and character traits and then narrowed them down to five.
In the 2nd week, students created an in school timetable and an out of school timetable. In the timetable, they wrote their subjects and their out of school activities. This was to help the students get more organised and have better time management.
Weeks 3 and 4 focused on exercise and mental health. A video about how physical exercise affects your mental health was shown to the students to encourage them to exercise. The students were asked to exercise for half an hour a day for a week. This exercise could include swimming, walking the dog, or riding a bike or skateboarding with friends. After the week was done, the students reflected on how this affected their mood and mental health.
From this experience, the students learned more about themselves and their mental health. We look forward to participating in more resilience activities to learn more about ourselves and the students around us.

Year 10 Captains
Dear friends and students, Year 10's are now well on their way to getting prepared for their first mid year exams coming up on Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 June.
Recently, we had our inter school soccer which the students thoroughly enjoyed as well as our EIS teams competing in their tournaments.
Students of the production are also working really hard to make sure that we have the best possible performance later on in the year.
We also had our Active and Successful Girls' Breakfast in May, with a variety of guest speakers talking about careers and advice on life.

Year 11 Captains
After a few stressful weeks of SACs and exam preparation, Year 11 students have begun sitting mid year exams for their Unit 1 & 3 classes.
In addition to mid-year exams, Year 12 and some Year 11 students are also being confronted by having to complete the GAT. The GAT is the General Achievement Test compulsory to be undertaken by students across Victoria completing a Unit 3 & 4 subject in 2016.
We wish good luck to all Year 11 students during this time of exams and commend them on their excellent effort so far this year.
