Swinburne Astrophysics Excursion
On Tuesday 9 May, Ms Barr's Year 11 Physics class, Zac Hoiles and I attended a lecture and tour of 'Swinburne University of Technology'. This fascinating experience was made possible by a theory on black holes I created (and a little convincing by my Science teacher Mrs Colyer). It involved stars birth, state of matter and their death.
I proposed that if stars are made of plasma (the hottest state of matter) and suddenly collapsed, that this rapid decline in heat and nucleic fusion, too much gravity was so great that almost all heat was lost and the almost instant decline, would cause black holes to become a colder state of matter below a solid. This could prove why time is warped as its properties are unknown.
I showed my Science teacher this and she insisted that a friend and I go with the Year 11's to Swinburne to listen to a lecture and see if my question and theory could be solved.
The day was a huge success and I highly recommend Swinburne to any students who are looking at going to university.
We toured the school and learnt about the schools system and learning methods. Nearing the end of the day we went to the school's 3D lecture theatre and watched a series of videos on Astro-physics and cosmology.
Although my question was not answered scientifically it was still fascinating to be at a well oiled university, all in all, the day was a huge success and I would do it again in a heart beat.
