The Careers Coordinators are available to assist students to make informed decisions about career choices and choices for study.

RMIT Experience Days -

Students in Years 10 to 12

If you're not sure which course you want to do, the RMIT Experience Days will give you the chance to dip your toe in a number of areas within a field.  Engage in hands-on workshops; explore life on campus; mingle with current students; all while getting a taste of what it's like to study at RMIT in Experience Days. 

 

The series of free events are run each year during the Victorian school holidays between Term 2 and 3. We have a range of events on offer and spots are strictly limited.

Career in Focus: Financial Service Careers

The Australian Financial and Insurance Services sector employs over 440,000 and is expected to grow by 8.5% over the next 5 years.

 

Careers in banking and financial services range from customer service banking and sales positions, financial advisers and analyst positions. They typically work in commercial banks, mortgage companies, savings and loan establishments and credit unions. Government agencies and companies also require financial services professionals to manage their portfolios and statements and also to audit and regulate other institutions.

UMAT 2017

Registrations Close – 5 pm, 2 June, 2017

Sit UMAT – 26 July, 2017

Results released – late September, 2017

 

UMAT is developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) on behalf of the UMAT Consortium universities. The test is used specifically to assist with the selection of students into the medicine, dentistry and health science degree programs at undergraduate level at the universities listed on the website.

 

UMAT scores can be used for admission to any of the UMAT Consortium universities ONLY in the year following the test. For example, results from UMAT2017 can be used for undergraduate medicine or health science courses beginning in 2018 but NOT 2019.

 

Do not register for UMAT2017 unless you are planning to apply for a course commencing in 2018 AND you meet the eligibility criteria specified in the UMAT2017  Information Booklet.

School Leaving Age

From January 1 2010, the Government brought in new requirements for the school leaving age.

 

Before a student is allowed to leave school they must satisfactorily complete Year 10 and until the age of 17, they must be in some form of full time training or employment.

 

Training options can include:

  • VCE
  • VCAL
  • Full Time TAFE
  • Apprenticeship

Any students wishing to leave school before these requirements are met must put in a request for exemption to the Regional Director in consultation with Lilydale High School.

 

All students leaving school before the end of Year 12 are required to fill in an exit form and complete a Careers or MIPs appointment.

 

Leaving school or not attending school can result in non-payment of Centrelink benefits.
