The Year 10 Science Exhibition Night held last week was a great success. Each year I marvel at the high quality of work and the passion and clarity with which the students communicate their newly acquired scientific knowledge. All of our many visitors had a terrific and informative night, and all students are to be sincerely congratulated on a wonderful exhibition. There were many prospective parents and students there on the night, fresh from the Information Night not long ago. They could not have left with a better impression of the school and its work.
The Year 10s proudly presented their interpretations of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ on Tuesday evening. Again the standard was extremely high, and I have been very impressed with the passion and energy which have gone into the preparation of the plays. The large group of parents and friends provided welcome and enthusiastic support of all of our students. Congratulations to them and of course their teachers for a job so very well done.
I was pleased to be able to visit some of our Regional Science Exchange students in Horsham on Wednesday this week. Several came to the session at Horsham College while many others joined the ‘meeting’ via technology. The Regional Exchange students will be here for four weeks early in term three, and I know they will all be made most welcome here. My thanks to the many families who have offered to home-stay one of these students. It is only through your generosity that this opportunity is made available to these students.
Our annual Music Camp also takes place at Don Bosco Camp in Safety Beach this weekend. Some 80 students are attending what will no doubt be a wonderful weekend for all, following on from the Jazz Festival in Mt Gambier attended again by so many of our staff and students. I would like to congratulate all of the Music staff for their commitment on behalf of our students. The Music program is showing the huge benefits of the hard work being put in by everyone, simply outstanding.
I will be away for the next week accompanying two JMSS teams to events held concurrently at the National University of Singapore High School of Mathematics and Science. The International Student Science Fair follows our own event in Melbourne last year, and the Singapore International Mathematics Challenge will run in parallel. JMSS won a medal at this event two years ago and we are looking forward to an exciting week. The ISSF team comprises Anthony Ta, Sarah Yasuda and Vivianne Truong, all from Year 11, and accompanied by Ms Sarah Sturgeon. The SIMC team comprises Orion Zymaris and Ethan Payne of Year 12, and Alex Socha and Yi Jie Neo of Year 11. Mr Luke Bohni will accompany this group. I would like to wish both teams all the best for what will no doubt be an amazing experience and a chance to forge many new friendships.
We are soon about to enter the important mid-year exam period, and I would like to wish all of our students the very best during this time. Written exams are reality in schools, some find them a positive experience and a chance to show what they know and can do, for others the exams are dreaded for the fear of underperforming. If you prepare well, get plenty of rest and maintain a balance over the next two weeks, you will be at your best when you need to be.
