St John First Aid Training

Student Reflections

On Monday, a person came from St John to teach us about first aid. They taught us how we can save someone’s life. They taught us:

D - Danger. Check for danger so you don't get hurt.

R - Response. Make sure the person the person is conscious or unconscious.

S - Send for help. Call 000 and answer the operators questions.

A - Airways. Make sure nothing is blocking the person's airways.

B - Breathing. Are they breathing?

C - CPR (Compulsory Pulmonary Resuscitation). If they aren't breathing do CPR with 30 compressions and two breaths every two minutes.

D - Defibrillation. If needed.

Molly O (5/6LW)

It was a great opportunity for us to have someone explain the basics of first aid.  We learned what D.R.S.A.B.C.D. means and how important this is when you encounter a person who requires help. I enjoyed learning how to do CPR and also how to put someone in the recovery position.

Olivia K (5/6LW)

When St Johns came to our class, they talked about DRS ABCD with us and what it stands for. It helped us out a lot, especially C which stands for CPR because not many of us knew how to do CPR, but now we all know.

Deakin M (5/6JN)

When St Johns came to our class they talked about DRS ABCD and CPR. These things are what you need to know if someone goes unconscious. He taught us how to perform CPR; one finger on the bottom of the ribcage and one on the top. Created a M form with your fingers; where your left finger is make that a palm, then place the other over it and press.

Luca H (5/6JN)

A man called Tim came into the 5/6 classrooms on 30th May. He talked to us about what to do in an emergency. He told us that to remember the order of how to do things, think of DRS ABCD. We learned that in a real emergency we have to stay calm and much more! Everyone had heaps of fun acting out what to do and took heaps out of the experience!

Charlotte T (5/6JN)

I learned about DRS ABCD and I enjoyed how they brought the dummies and let all of us do CPR on it a few times.

Blake C (5/6JN)

On Monday I learned how to do CPR and the DRSABCD. It was really fun because we got to interact with some of the things.

Campbell C (5/6SB)

I enjoyed it it was really fun and the best bit was that you got to do CPR on a fake dummy.

Annabelle L (5/6SB)

I do know a lot of first aid because of my dad, but it is always really fun reviewing it and it is good practice. As they say practice makes perfect.

Ayla C (5/6SB)

I enjoyed the course and I think it would be relevant if you found yourself in that kind of situation. I learned about the acronym DRSABCD, it was fun. I also learned CPR and it was interesting.

Ana M (5/6SB)

I thought it was completely relevant because if a situation like that arises you need to know what to do and how to do it. I really enjoyed it because our teacher was down to earth and made it easy for us to understand. I learned skills about Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) such as where to push on the chest and how hard to push.

Ben C (5/6SB)

I thought it was good what they taught us. I think it is relevant so if we ever have to do CPR etc. we know what to do. Our teacher did the lesson really well and he made it easier for us to understand. I learned how to do Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) properly.

Isaac S (5/6SB)

On Monday, I enjoyed the First Aid course because it would help people when they need it and I learned how to do CPR and it was really fun! I also learned DRSABCD and it's going to help me when i need it.
