May Update

Karina Joy, a Senior Hydrogeologist from Goulburn Murray Water recently attended Karlie McGrath's Year 10 General Science class.

Students learnt about the water system and how much total global water exists. They were able to calculate the percentages of ocean water, surface water and fresh water. In determining ground water students also learnt about porosity and even had a chance to make their own working bore in class.

Many students were interested to hear about the vast array of jobs on offer locally at Goulburn Murray Water and also heard first hand how to access local work experience opportunities.

The Year 10 General Science class last week also had the opportunity to take advantage of Shepparton High School's reach along the Goulburn River with an outdoor classroom session facilitated by River Connect.

Students started the session with a relaxing bird watching and listening session and enjoyed connecting to nature, some students even hugging trees whilst enjoying the natural environment and the outdoor classroom experience.

Students also learnt from Allison and Danni, from River Connect, about the River system and water quality with a water testing component.

Students also found the Fish Ladder intriguing - a structure that allows the fish to migrate, spawn and seek refuge within the river system. Shepparton High School’s river reach under the ‘Adopt a Reach Program’ is the only reach boasting a fish ladder.

Thank you to GM Water and River Connect for their support of the Industry Links Project with Shepparton High School
