INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

WELCOME BACK - TERM 3

This term the Instrumental Music department is running some very exciting competitions and performance opportunities for all music students. 

 

It has been wonderful to see all of our Instrumental Music students back in the PAC over the first two weeks of school! We look forward to hearing their progress on their instruments and in their bands over the semester.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC MEETING

Tuesday 28 July

Important information regarding the Instrumental Music program will be handed out to all Instrumental Music students in the PAC on Tuesday 28 July, during Form Assembly. 

 

Students will need to attend form assembly in the morning and then head to the PAC to meet Ms Cumming.

INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS

All students are expected to keep up with their 'Lesson Timetable' both on the PAC timetable noticeboard and on Compass.  Instrumental Music staff are in the PAC on the days listed below. 

 

Piano/Voice – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Karla Nyhuis)

 

Guitar/Bass Guitar – Tuesday (Stephen McCulloch)

 

Flute – Wednesday (Bonnie Poduska)

 

Brass – Thursday (Kent Fisk, Kathy Elsten)

 

Woodwind – Thursday & Friday (Bronwyn Ventura, Kathy Elsten)

 

Drum Kit– Friday (Malcolm Abbott)

 

 

Term 3 - Bronwyn Ventura and Kent Fisk Term r

 

Students who learn with Ms Ventura and Mr Fisk will have met Ms Kathy Elsten (Woodwind/Brass) in their lessons over the last week.  Kathy will be replacing Bronwyn Ventura (Weeks 1 – 4) and Kent Fisk (Weeks 3 – 5).   We're very excited to have her expertise in the PAC this term. 

 

Karla Nyhuis will be back in Week 3 of Term 3.  All Voice and Piano lessons should be visible on Compass to all students from Week 3. 

BANDS/ENSEMBLES

As part of the Instrumental Music program, all students are expected to regularly attend their band/ensemble rehearsals.  All bands/ensembles will be rehearsing from Week 3 onwards in preparation of the Term 4 End of Year Concert.

SEPTEMBER SOIREE 

Soloist, Duet & Small Ensemble Performance Night - Wednesday 16 September

 

 

We're excited to be holding the September Soiree in 2015. All students who wish to perform will be given the opportunity to sign up to perform solo, as a duet on in a small ensemble through their instrumental teacher. 

 

We encourage students to take on this fantastic performance opportunity to showcase their individual skills in front of an audience of family and friends.  More information will be given to students in the coming weeks.

LHS BATTLE OF THE BANDS

All students involved in Battle of the Bands were present at a meeting held last week regarding their rehearsal roster for Term 3.   

 

All students are to practice two songs for the epic final battle which will be held in the Middle School Quadrangle on Friday 16 October. We're looking forward to all of the bands performances!

Unearthed High 2015 

Best of luck to the Year 10 girls who are representing LHS in the 2015 Unearthed High Competition for 2015. 

 

The students have been busy writing and recording an original song over the last few weeks. The students will submit their song to the network who is responsible for launching the music careers of many musicians including Australian Pop/Rock bands such as Lunaticks on Pogosticks, Asta and Stonefield.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Yarra Ranges (Level-Up FReeZA/Push Start) 

All students are invited to Victoria's largest all ages music competition which returns to the Yarra Ranges for 2015. 

 

Participating in the competition are the respective bands of Alex Cossey (Year 12) and Ryan O'Connor (Year 11).  Best of luck to the boys and their bands in the competition.
