2022 Preps

We had our lovely 2022 preps arrive this afternoon for their 1st transition session.  This was a really positive session and with restrictions lifted overnight, we were able to allow parents to come inside and enjoy the milestone.  Despite missing out on a great deal of their kinder experience, we were so impressed with their ability to stay focused, follow directions and interact with each other so kindly.  A great start for our 2022 prep families and we are very excited to welcome them into our school community.

Now that restrictions have changed to reflect the 90% vaccination levels in Victorians over 12 years of age, we can begin to make plans for some of our end of year events. Below are some details of events that are going ahead.

Production

We are pleased to be able to announce that production will go ahead at The George Wood Centre at Yarra Valley Grammar School on Monday 13th December.  With restrictions to density limits being lifted we will be able to offer tickets for audience numbers as per previous years.  Details for when bookings go live will be sent out next week via Compass.

Kirsty is working very hard as she tries to get the students to catch up after lockdown. The dances are looking great and we are all looking forward to being together as a school and celebrating the end of a hard year.  We will also be singing a couple of Christmas carols with Kevin O'Mara at the end of the night as we are unable to have our traditional carols in lieu of our production taking place in the final week of the school year.

Carols

While we are not holding our annual school carols this year, Community Carols are going ahead on Saturday 18th of December at Stiggant's Reserve. Kevin O'Mara has been asked to perform and has been around the classrooms today, singing carols and getting into the Christmas spirit.  Further details will come out soon, but all students and Bushband members are invited to join Kevin on the stage at Stiggant's Reserve on the evening of the 18th.

School Start/Finish Times

We have ended staggered starts and finishes, so on Monday students  can be dropped off and collected at any of the entrance/points and at the regular bell times. Parents are able to enter the buildings but we are still required to mask up indoors in primary schools.  Thank you for being so patient and adhering to the staggered times. I know it made the routines in households harder. The staff and I appreciate the efforts you have gone to the support the school.

Grade 6 Graduation

This is a big event for our grade 6 students but even more so this year as they end the year being able to socialise and enjoy their graduation without restrictions.  The parent Graduation committee is in full swing preparing for the event and we look forward to being able to celebrate this milestone with our grade 6 families on the 17th December.

Special Assembly

On Wednesday 16th December we will be holding a special assembly to say thank you and goodbye to our retiring staff.  We will also have our current grade 6 leaders handing over their role officially to the current grade 5's.  Parents will now be welcome to attend this assembly, subject to mandated vaccination requirements at the time.

Have a great weekend as we enjoy our new freedoms.

Take care,

Nieta
