Classroom Reports

Foundation & 1

Our swimming sessions finish this Friday, and we have all progressed so well. It's great to see how much more confident we have become. It's also wonderful to reflect on the year and see the academic growth we have made in Maths and English. Special thanks to all families who have supported us and helped achieve this. Children have begun Christmas activities and we are eagerly waiting Santa's response to our letters. Each day we get to decorate our small Christmas tree and have put our building skills to the test to create a Christmas village.  We wish all our families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.

A 'Pirate' welcome to visiting Kinder children for their Transition visit.

Mrs Tanya Chalmers, Teacher

Year 1 & 2

Another year of education draws to a close! What a wonderful group of students we have had in Year 1/2, who have again shown so much resilience and enthusiasm despite all the ups and downs of 2021.

We still have a busy week; a list of reminders and events was sent home in diaries on Monday.

The swimming program has been a great success. The intensive two week program makes such a difference and it was encouraging to see the skills and confidence gained by each student from the first lesson to the last.

A big thank you to all families for your support and teamwork in helping to develop and grow your children into smart and caring humans!

Have a safe and wonderful family time over the break.

Mrs Deirdre McKenzie, Teacher

Year 3 & 4

Sorry to all students and families for not getting a newsletter article out recently. Here are a few wonderful things we have been doing lately.

Malmsbury DOXA Camp

All of our students had the most wonderful time away for a three day camp. Climbing wall, giant swing, bush walking, playing down at the pebbly creek and the giant trampolines were just some of our favourite adventures.

Building Friendships

We have been participating in a number of group tasks about the College working on building friendships and teamwork skills. These included cooking pancakes and making milkshakes and helping out with the chooks up at the garden.

I have loved spending the year with this gorgeous group of 3/4 students. I hope you have a safe and happy Christmas break!

Ms Jess Higgins, Teacher

Year 4 & 5

It's hard to believe that we're at the end of the school year for 2021. Unfortunately, our school year got severely interrupted, but I am proud of how the students soldiered on. The need for support from our family, friends and the community are greater than ever, and I look forward to developing a stronger, united school community in 2022.

I am appreciative of the opportunity to teach the Grade 4/5 class of 2021 and wish every student all the very best for the years to come.

Best wishes for a joyful and festive Christmas holiday break.

Mrs Carlie Turnbull, Teacher

Year 5 & 6

At the end of what has been a tumultuous year, all the Grade 5 and 6 students now look forward to 2022 with growing excitement.

The Grade 6 Transition days have proven quite successful. 2022 Year 7’s are ready for a change of environment, more responsibility, growing independence and maybe even little extra work.

The new Grade 6 students are eager to embrace their new leadership roles which they will take on next year.

Ms Purkiss and I would like to thank each and every family for their continued support and flexibility throughout the year with ever changing timetables, schedules and Covid requirements/distractions.

The last project for the year is called ‘Where in the World have Mrs Steel’s Sharpies gone!?’

We wish you all the best in your continued growth both personally and academically and look forward to seeing you all again in the new year!

Miss Amy Purkiss and Mrs Annita Steel, Classroom Teachers

Miss Emma Milne, Maths Teacher

Year 3/4 & 7/8 Malmsbury Camp

On Wednesday 10th of November, sixty-five excited students and staff departed for our Malmsbury Camp.

Over the three days, we participated in a range of activities including a bush walk, the climbing wall, the giant swing, a leap of faith, a campfire, movie night and water ecology. It was fantastic to hear the students encouraging each other, facing their fears, and playing so well together particularly in the Gaga Pit.

We also had two birthdays – Luke and Meika.

Big thank you to our staff Ms Higgins, Melinda, Reana, Laura, Mrs Turnbull, Mr Pettifer, Mr Merritt, Mr Lockhart and Ms Milne for attending the camp. Also thank you to our parent helper Amanda Amidzovski.

RMIT Science Incursion

On Wednesday the 1st of Dec we had a visit from a group of Scientists and Engineers from RMIT. Throughout the day they ran activities for Grades 3 to Year 8 and spoke to the students about different areas of science.  Activities included building and firing stomp rockets, film canister rockets, making oobleck which is a substance that can act as both a liquid and a solid, lava lamps and block coding on paper.

Students had the chance to ask them about their chosen careers and the different things that they do in their jobs.

Jordan (an indigenous coordinator from RMIT) took some time at lunch to speak to our indigenous students in the library about possible career pathways.

Students enjoyed the interactive activities and the chance to find out about exciting careers which involve science.

D is for Doughnut Day and Dress Up Day

The combined D for Doughnut Day and D for Dress up Day was a wonderful day with students all dressed up as their favourite characters. Students dressed up as Bingo and Bluey, Boat Captain of The Spirit of Tasmania, Spiderman, several princesses (including: Belle, Anna, Elsa and Jasmine), a witch, fairies, a shark, Harley Quinn, a ghost, Cruella Deville, Ironman, footballers, a cricketer, T-Rex, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Daisy Wells and Anne of Green Gables. We even had a visit from a ‘real life’ Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona (special thanks to Neve and Michelle Nisbet for bringing in Rodney the Donkey). The students were very excited to see a ‘real life’ donkey up close and be able to pat it. Students enjoyed a feast of different foods including doughnuts and toasted sandwiches from E&C’s Pop Up Shop as well as a BBQ provided by the school.

2021 Debutante Ball

After several postponements, our 2021 Debutante Ball was finally held on Friday November 26.  With restrictions easing in the week leading up to the Ball, it was wonderful to see a larger group of friends and family of those participating were in attendance.

The KLC was transformed into a magnificent setting, supporting the theme of ‘Country’ and bringing the magic of the night alive.

Congratulations to the eight couples, who were presented to the College Principal, Danny Forrest and his wife Rachel; Parents Association President, Kylie Cunningham and her husband Scott.

Samantha Arnup and Connor Winslett

Emily Elliott and Zac Slide

Montannah Gartside and Josh Lowe

Chelsea Giorlando and Finn Turnbull

The couples were supported by Sofia Caserta (Flower Girl) and Jye Laverty-Smith (Page Boy), who did a fantastic job and looked gorgeous.

The Debs and their partners were trained over such a long period of stops and starts by Dede Williams and Thomas Jackson. Thank you for your patience and resilience.
