International Students Excursion

Our school received funding from the International Education Division to organise an excursion with our international students for a holiday program.  Two Year 12 and a Year 10 male student attended the day with Mrs Ruth Probin and myself.  There were last minute absences due to personal and family reasons.  So only three boys out of a total of 11 were able to make it, but they all enjoyed themselves.

As the number of students who wanted to go were small, Celine of Williamstown High School joined us so that we could book a tour bus.  Students from both schools were able to make new friends with one another, both male and female.  The total number that attended was 14 students from both schools, 4 school staff and the tour bus driver.  The itinerary was well designed.  The timing and activities were easy, not challenging and very enjoyable as well.  The BBQ lunch at Maru Koala Park was exceptionally nice with some steamed rice for all our Asian students. We were fortunate that we had slightly cool weather with some sunshine and no rain as forecast. One of the highlights of the trip was The Nobbies, there was a virtual presentation where you could see yourself surrounded by killer whales, dolphins, penguins and seals.  You need to bring a swim suit and a video camera.

We left Fairhills at 8:20am for a jam packed itinerary:

  1. Drive to The Nobbies – Tour with the exhibitions
  2. Boardwalk in the Nobbies area.
  3. Drive to San Remo for pelican show
  4. Drive to Maru Koala Park for BBQ lunch and visiting various animals inside the park.
  5. Drive to a dairy farm to see cows being milked and refreshments.

Finally, we returned to Fairhills at 5pm with a lot of laughter and wonderful memories.

Finally, students enjoyed some moments to themselves interacting with animals.  I believe this was one of the highlights.  Being locked down due to Covid for some time the students finally had some time for themselves.
