Year 5 Gold Rush Excursion

Last week our Year 5 students travelled to Beenleigh for a unique experience at Eureka Excursions. They spent the day back in time, experiencing life on the goldfields in 1854. They encountered a bushranger, bought gold licences, panned for gold, made damper and engaged in mapping activities around a tented township. All students enjoyed the hands-on learning experiences and gained a greater understanding of this period in Australian history.

National Recycling Week

The Green Team will be supporting National Recycling Week from Monday 8 to Friday 12 November. They are requesting donations of clothing in good condition to be delivered to Primary classrooms during this time. The Green Team will pass on all items received to UnitingCare.

Green Team Fundraiser – Tico’s Treasures

On Tuesday 16 November the Green Team will be raising money for the Tangalooma EcoMarines. The Tangalooma EcoMarines is a Brisbane-based not-for-profit organisation. As a registered charity, the organisation works to enhance the marine environment of Moreton Bay by improving the quality of waterways throughout southeast Queensland.

The Green Team will be setting up a stall, Tico’s Treasures, outside of the Primary Office at lunchtime with their new mascot ‘Tico the Turtle’. Items for sale are listed below and donations are also graciously accepted. The Green Team thanks you in advance for your support.

Student Representative Council Initiatives

On Thursday 25 and Friday 26 November, the SRC invites you to a Uniform Swap in the Assembly Hall from 8:00 am - 9:00 am. For a gold coin donation, families will be able to trade Clayfield College uniform items in good condition they no longer require. The SRC are also happy to swap school shoes, Library or College bags. We look forward to your support of this initiative.

As we near the end of the year, the SRC would also like you to consider the stationery items your children may bring home in the final week of school. In your child’s diary, there will be a note asking you to consider donating unused items. Such items will include scrapbooks, exercise books, glue sticks, rubbers, crayons and pencils.  All items collected will be shared with Pacific Island charities.

Baby Give Back

Thank you for your support and generous donations towards the Baby Give Back charity. Last term, one of our Year 1 parents, Sandy Iyer, requested car seats and other items towards their September campaign. Sandy is pleased to report the collection drive was a huge success. Clayfield College donated 13 car seats, two prams and five large tubs of clothes. Sandy mentioned it was heart-warming to see these items going to social caseworkers in neatly packaged bags. If you would like to donate to this charity, please look to their website for more information: https://www.babygiveback.org me
